Make sure the solenoid is actually bad. This may involve hooking up a pair of wires directly to the battery. Check the electrical connections to the solenoid. Check the wires at the switches. Make sure the solenoid is actually getting a full 12 volts when the button is pushed. A wire could have come off the pushbutton switches, or a connection in the wire could have some corrosion in it. Do not leave a connection to the solenoid hooked up for a long period of time, it may have been designed to only handle being energized for a short period of time, because that is all that is needed to release the catch. Make sure you also check the ground side of the solenoid also.

There should be a manual back up cable, somewhere, coming off the solenoid. This cable could be hidden somewhere under the gunnel, on the same side of the boat that the hatch latch that is not working.

The solenoid on the boat may just need to be cleaned, it has had 9 or 10 years to collect gunk on it. It may have had grease on it, that is old, and hardened. You might be able to repair the old solenoid. It is just a coil of wire, that pulls an iron core into itself when electricity is applied.

To get a new solenoid, your first step may be to contact your Australian local Correct Craft dealer. I realize local may mean on the other side of the Australian continent. Another option is to contact White Lake marine, one of this websites sponsors. You can use E-mail to contact White lake.

Thanks Daniel, what happened is one of the button's got stuck in while in the river, and it seems to have burnt out the solenoid. I have checked all the wiring and as you suggested i ran it straight off of the battery.

The solenoid still works, But it is very weak now.
