    99 pro air

    Hello all,
I'm new here. Fatboy hooked me up with the site. I am considerring a 99 pro air with 750 hours. The price is around 25k. It's in good shape. Is this a reasonable price to pay. What type of wake will this boat provide. It's a direct drive and I wonder if I should spend alittle more and get a v drive. What type of wake would a v drive produce at slalom speed (34-36)? Thanks for any input. Tug

    RE: 99 pro air

Hey Tug, welcome to the site. The people on here are very helpful when it comes to anything Nautique. I have never seen the wake of a Pro Air myself but someone here will fill you in shortly. Good luck in your boat shopping and remember you can buy a Nautique or you can settle for something else.

I should be able to help ya out. I purchased a 99 pro air back last spring. Before buying this boat you really need to decide what you plan to do with it. If you are looking for a good cross over boat with a good wakeboard wake and some slalom versatility this is your boat.

However if you are looking for a hardcore slalom boat or hardcore wakeboard boat you should probably look else where. We run around 1000 lbs in ours and the wakeboard wake is very nice. It is shaped very similiar to a super air when weighted correctly. I have ridden behind air nautiques and the pro air responds a little better when weighted...i think the wake is a little peakier. All in all It works out great because I wakeboard most of the time but still love ripping a slalom set without killing myself coming across the wake....the pro air is a great cross over boat in my opinion

The slalom wake is not bad at around 32+....night and day difference from a V drive but not nearly as good as a ski nautique (flat at 28mph).

As far as price...I would say 25K with 750 hrs is a bit high. Ours was slightly cheaper than that with only 300 hrs, loaded except for perfect pass and even had a 2001 tower installed. They changed the tower in 2000.....in my opinion the 2000+ towers look much better than the older ones.

I guess it all depends on how well the boat was taken care of and how many options it has.

Hope this helps...sorry for the long post...if you have any other questions feel free to ask. I can tell you about anything you would want to know about this boat.

        Thanks Brandon,
Great info! I guess I'm still 'ponderring'. I want the crossover but the v drive gives so much more room. I was told that this boat has 3 ballast tanks, would that be your 1,000 lbs that you speak of. When weighted, does this boat come anywhere near the super air (a percentage guestimite of wake comparison). I was behind a super air last summer twice and it blew me away. Thanks for your reply, Robert
P.S. I can not find correct craft listed in the NADA web site. Does anyone know how to check values? Thanks

          Tug,

Our boat came with 2 small tanks in the very back (2 200 lb hard tanks totalling 400 lbs). I don't think the stock center ski locker hard tank was an option in 99 but I could be wrong. We typically add weight in the center ski locker and in the back ski locker (on top of the stock tanks) to get our total weight close to 1000lbs. With this much weight I would say the wake is very comparable to a super air with stock tanks. Obviously there are many people that run 1000-2000 lbs in their super air which creates a much larger wake than the pro air is capable of. I have friends that love our wake and are throwing 540's, and various inverts/raleys.

The super air wake is really a beast but when weighted to the max but the pro air is going to be plenty big until you get into really advanced tricks like mobes and stuff most of us only dream of throwing.

As far as the room I actually like the layout of the DD over the Vdrive but that is another topic all together. The dd will turn/handel better in my opinion. The main upside to the Vdrive is STORAGE. Once you have all your gear and add extra ballast in the pro air there is very little storage. I think it is a good trade off to have less storage, better handeling, and not quite as good a wakeboard wake to be able to slalom ski without killing yourself behind a V drive.

Good luck and remember you can't go wrong with any nautique.

          Brandon
