How much distance should there be between the prop blade and the hull?

      ACME 1579
      Diameter: 13.5"
      Pitch: 14.25"
      Cup: .105
      Rotation: Left Hand
      Shaft: 1 1/8"

      ACME 1631
      Diameter: 13.5"
      Pitch: 14.25"
      Cup: .150
      Rotation: Left Hand
      Shaft: 1 1/8"

The only difference is the "Cup". Whatever "Cup" does it seems like the 1579 pulls harder and gets better gas mileage while at our local lake where we mostly wakeboard without a lot cruising or other "travel". At Lake Powell it seems like the other prop is more efficient, but we do a lot more "traveling" around at Powell and less actual boarding.
? Wait what I was told to get the 1235 for my 06 if I add weight? Now i'm totally confused. Just finishing up my order with wakemakers going with 750 instead of my hard tanks and the integrated bow right. Please tell me if there is a better option than the 1235

The 1235 and 1579 are the same prop except the 1235 has a 1" larger diameter. If you were told this by someone who runs this on their boat then you may be fine. Or maybe people have started running the 14.5 diameter props over the 13.5 and have had no problems. I just know that when I talked to Acme or Delta they said 13.5 was the biggest to run on my 01 SAN. My buddy runs the 1579 on his 06 SAN and it has no problem getting an extra 3500lbs outta the hole.

Ill be on my buddies 06 on Saturday and take a pic and measure how much room there is with the 1579.

I was specifically told by Bill at ACME prop not to run the 1235 on my boat. He said it would fit, but would very, very close to the hull. Like I said before, I run the 1579 and the 1631 and am very, very happy with them. I previously had a 1465, which is now discontinued by name, and is the 1579.

Here is the 1579 on an 06 SAN. I forgot a tape measure, but I would say its about a 1.5 inch gap.

So call acme explained what I got and that I'm just gonna be wakeboarding and surfing only all on a small lake. He told me to go with the 1617 which is a Acme - Dia: 14, Cup: .105 Pitch: 13 3/4 Blades: 4 Shaft: 1 1/8 Rotation: LH. They haven't updated their site it says a .075 cup but its a .105 my boat has the stock 645 and I only have 15/16th of an inch gap so a 14' is cutting it close I should end up with a 9/16th gap he said they like 5/8 to be safe so. Its more aggressive then the 1433 the 14" version of the 1579 or 1235. So will see how it works out kinda a test dummy and said I could return it if I didn't like it. I'll use my 645 on vacations where I will be cruising more often.

Any further reports on propeller satisfaction/dissatisfaction?

                I wish Acme made a 14" diameter 16 pitch .105 cup 1 1/8"bore RH propeller!

Ha, in that orientation you may be right. Usually when talking hull clearance, the "minimum" clearance is usually the concern. You'd want to rotate the prop around until the longest part of the blade was pointing the hull.

The general rule of thumb Ive heard is "10% of the prop diameter" should be your minimum clearance. It seems that stretching that rule slightly (down to ~1" on 12-14" diameter props) seems to be ok. I wouldnt go much beyond that though. Our BFN had very minimal clearance from the factory (just under 1/2") and the keel and rudder port took a serious beating from the prop burn.
