First day out.

This was my first day out this year and I noticed a few things that I wasn't sure about.
1. How much is the shaft packing supposed to leak? It seemed to leak a lot this time out, almost a gallon or so over a 1-1.5 hour outing.
2. Is the exhaust more visible in colder water/air? It seemed really noticeable when in the past I have rarely seen it.

Just a random question, do you guys check the oil when the engine is warm, or right before you go out?

It was a cold day on the water (46*) but it was definitely worth it. I was skiing three weeks ago last year.

Exhaust is more noticeable when your tank has Stabil in it. If everything ran fine and your engine temps were not higher than normal, I would use up most of the gas, re-fill the tank, and look again. If it's not better, then you may have a problem, but I suspect it will look just fine with just gas and no Stabil.

Exhaust will DEFINITELY make that grey smoke a lot more when the weather/water is cold. We have noticed that every year in the spring and fall.

As far as the packing goes they say a few drops a minute is about right...otherwise you are due for a little tightening.

I would think temp has a lot to do with exhaust.. watch the cars go down the street on a cold winter morning. you see the exhaust for a long time.. compared to warmer days. I think this weekend might be the first day out... if it doesnt rain! Wisconsin weather SUCKS!... I need to flush out the pink anti-freeze before I go though... maybe a mothers day cruise? IF she lets me... haha...
