Just purchased a 2001 sport nautique. Boat looks close to perfect with 250 hours. Can you provide any pointers of what to look for or tips to keeping it in great shape. gauges have already been replaced from the digital guages. We are new to nautiques. Owned a 99 mastercraft 10 yrs ago but this seems like an upgrade to the mastercraft. We are really excited and are picking it up in a few days. thx in advance

Congrats on the purchase, and yes we feel its an upgrade from a mastercraft too! Best thing to do is to just hang out here and read the daily post. That is the best way to get good tips and knowledge about your boat. You can also download the manuals here too.

And a key to staying up to date: The "WHAT'S NEW" tab has all the threads that have updates from the last time YOU logged in. It's a one-stop shop for all that's been updated. And the little arrow box and the base of the 'last post' sends you to the last place you looked at it. That comes in handy when the threads get multiple pages long!

Tons of great info on here... I just discovered this place a while back and it's been invaluable for all the upgrades and mods I've done to my boat... the seach button will be your very good friend for different things you want to do and questions you might have as well. Good to see I'm not the only newbie... : )

If your Ford Powered then proper oil with zddp is a good idea- I'm using valvoline vr1 racing oil, and have to do a little planning to have it on hand before I'm ready to change the oil.

Otherwise lots of gas money this season and time on the water with friends and fam.

Do you recommend synthetic for an older boat that might not have used synthetic in the past? I was always under the impression that you should not use synthetic in an older motor that has not always used synthetic, as it might leak through the seals.

Also, the OP mentioned that his boat has the upgraded gauges. Does the updated Tach say 250 hours? If so, your boat has more than 250 hours.

Post pics of your new toy.

great boat !! I had a 99 sport. Becareful with waves or wakes coming over the bow and with weight in the bow (adults). Once that first wave comes over and puts a ton of water in your boat - you will remember this post and you will be more careful. It happens to everyone in the beginning. It happens when you are sitting still or moving at idle and a wake come straight on bow from another boat. Just give the boat a little power, front lifts and no problem. Sometimes not easy if you have a skier in the water.

                        Enjoy !!

The boat's guages say 55hrs. The dealer had the paper trail of the 175 hrs prior to the guages being replaced. I am picking the boat up today and will shoot a few pics when I get it. Here is the link below. I think it was a pretty good deal considering it was near perfect condition. I could not find any flaws in the boat. Some really small surfaces scratches on the hull but the rest of the boat looks new. I would like to keep it looking like this but with 3 kiddos we are expecting to put on 200 hrs in the first few years. It was by far the cleanest and nicest one we have seen around this year in our price range. It has full cover, bow cover and (2) bimini tops. The dealer has to custom order the rear bimini that cover the back of the boat. It looks a little less sporty but it was really nice to have the shade back there on the test ride.
