Why would you want to? For a very short time it is ok, but don't leave it there. Packing needs water, so does the shaft-thru-strut

Oh you're talking about changing your trans fluid? Sorry, I misunderstood. I'm not sure on that, although I have my manual sitting in front of me. I may check that out.

I'd say follow your manual and you should be safe.

Trans. Change per manual-with boat on shift forward, neutral, reverse, neutral. Just checking to see if it's ok to do this on trailer hooked to a hose.

You might consider elaborating on your question and speaking in full sentences. That way people can understand what you are talking about....

Be aware of the strut bearing, you will burn that out with extended out of water use.

I'm on an iPad. Suck for typing. I guess I wanted to know if once forward and once reverse will be ok?

well typically you don't shift the boat into gear while on the trailer for the reasons mentioned, you destroy the rubber bearing in the strutt and burn the packing flax.

for what you are wanting to do

change the fluid and cycling the tranny so that the fluid is warm and drains a little better from the internal parts. But to do this you will need to disconnect the coupling so that the prop shaft doesn't move when you engage the transmission, other wise you need to dip it in the water warm the fluid up running it in gear and then draining it as quickly afterwards as possible. That is if you want to follow a book.

But all you really need to do is drain it and then fill it and then when you take it out for the frst time you need to check the fluid level before you unhook the boat from the trailer.

Thanks. I'll just warm it and change it and bring extra when I go out.

Following this procedure, the fluid will never get hot because there is no load on the transmission. They only generate heat when loaded.

Now it might stir up and suspend the sediment....but "heat" is unlikely.
