New 230 owner looking for the best wakesurf setting with only stock ballasts

    Hi guys,
Just received my new 2011 SAN 230 last night to replace my 2003 SAN 226 which I sold last year. I was just wondering what was the best wakesurf setting (regular stance/port side) with only people and the stock ballasts ...no extra fat sacks or weight. In order words should I also fill the belly ballast or is the wake steeper with only the port ballast.
Thanks a lot for your help.
    Cheers from Switzerland,
    Jeff

Port side ballast completely full and belly tank 1/2 full. 1/2 full belly makes the weight tilt towards port as bit. Most of the people in the port rear corner/sun platform, may have them move towards the front on the port side depending on how short it makes the pocket.

You may be able to get something surfable if you have some people in the boat, but the wave may not be as long as you would like/may be surfing very close to swim platform. These 230s can handle a lot of weight and have plenty of room to store the sacs.

I have a 230, factory ballast. I fill the belly full and the port. never tried half full, maybe I should. No extra weight other than 3-4 people on the same surf side. I weigh 230 (hmm, weird) and am usually able to ride without the rope on a 5' board. I would like to make it bigger though, and prob. need a bigger board. Guess I need to experiment as well.

Thanks guys, I was thinking about eventually just adding one small fatsack in the port locker where the floor is declining ...about particular suggestion of a brand/size which would fit in there?
Thanks and have a good ride.

The cost of the sacks is not much different, so I would go with at least a 750.

On top of full stock port and 1/2 belly, I use 750 port locker, 550 across the back seat on the port side, 550 along the port side towards the middle/front of the seat. But we rarely go out with more than 6 total people and I like a huge wake. Also, you will need to play with the hydrogate to get the right shape of wake for how much weight you are running.

One thing you could consider is just removing your factory hard tanks in the rear, and replacing them some Fly High Pro-X Series bags. I did this in our 2011 230 and replaced them with 1100 pound bags (you could do 750's instead). It's a super easy modification. Just a thought.

i weigh 210lbs and can surf my 230 w/ just the port and the belly on a 4'6" Walker board. i can surf switch and heel side on the starboard with just the starboard and belly.

i set mine up similar to Alliance most of the time. port, belly, 750 in the locker, 500s across the back and on the surf side, and arrow head sack in the belly. usually run about 12 mph with this set up.

as far as the hydro-fake is concerned, all it changes when i adjust it is how clean the lip is.
