1997 196 rear seat removal

i am trying to replace the stern light base, but it appears i have to remove the seat back to get to the wires since it wont pull out ot the hole more than 1/2 inch. How do you get the seat back off or is there another way to replace the light base? any help is greatl appreciated.

The seat back, lift it straight up. Bend the corners in slightly to clear the boat.
The seat base has a pin that goes horizontally into a strut, on each side, that just unclips, and you pull the pin. Slide the base forward, more on the starboard side, and lift it out of the boat
