    battery

Running a 2009 SAN 210....one battery system, lots of running but lots of sitting (weeks without use) and sitting in water (playing stereo, hanging out between sets). Trying to read up on what battery to buy.... need to crank that 350hp engine......the Batteries Plus, West Marine..etc websites are horrible. The Optima website lists ZERO inboard engine types to match up to right battery... Optima Blue Top d31M seems like a good horse but CAN NOT find any written 'this is right for your boat/engine info online.

    HELP!

Sears platinum series are actually made by Odyssey and are a really high quality AGM battery. I would run a 27/65 series if it will fit into your battery box. If not they a 24/31 would be a nice alternative. I run two 65 series odyssey and have had great luck with them. They are pricey though....

      bchesley,

Are the batteries you run a cold starting battery, marine deep charge, or dual purpose? I am going to purchase two new batteries this week for my boat as well and was wondering what I should get. Should I do 1 cranking and 1 deep cell or both cranking, or both dual purpose, or etc. etc? I'm not exactly sure what the best senario is. I have a 210 team with decent size stereo (2 JL 300/4 and 1 JL 500/1) tower speakers, sub. We do tie up a lot on weekends when it is too busy to ride and play the stereo for long periods. I also have a Kinetik HC800 stereo battery in there running to the amps. Thanks for any helpful suggestions

      Diggityd,

Sorry for the thread high jack, just hoping we could both get useful info.

They would be considered a starting battery, but because of their AGM makeup have a huge reserve. I have had mine run for hours and it starts right up no issue. I was running 2400 watts of power using all Wet Sounds amps at the time. I just made sure that they were charged up properly before leaving them. If they batteries are run in a series then they will need to be the same.

Those batteries are so expensive my Sears can only afford to keep one on the shelf at a time. They are so heavy you may not have to add ballast. I like running two batteries because it is the only excuse I could tolerate for adding lead ballast to our boat. I just put the left one in the same place as the right one and wired it straight to the starter and engine block with #2 wire. Really makes that starter crank.

I had tried them up on the shelf for a while to let the 750s fill up more but I never secured them and they would slide off the shelf while on the road. So I just put them both in the "original" position and let the 750s squeeze them. Still get all the wake we can handle.

I concur that if you are going to hook batteries up in parallel like this they need to be the exact same battery, preferably manufactured one after the other.
