    '93 GT40 won't start when hot

Lot's of similar threads, but, really couldn't find one that was applicable to my situation. Any insights are much appreciated!

I have a 1200 hour, '93 GT40 SN with a Protech conversion. Been out dailly the past month, and, the boat's been running great!

However, recently began exhibiting a starting problem while warm. Very easy to replicate, as it now happens every time.

I shut the boat off for a break, and, the starter/battery will turn strongly, but the boat won't start. No coughing sputtering at all. All variations of throttle movements don't seem to matter...pumping the throttle, holding it wide open (to counter flooding condition), etc. Starts fine cold in the morning, and, will eventually start after cooling down.

My gut feel is that it's not getting fuel, as I don't tend to smell a lot of gas, even after pumping the throttle. One puzzling item, is that when I give up, and stop turning the starter...for the brief instant that I'm off the starter switch, but, it's still turning, the engine will sometimes fire a bit.

I've thought about the fuel pump and carb as places to start, but, can't figure out how it could be idling and running so strongly, if these were the issues.

    Any help is appreciated!

Forgot to mention, operating temps look normal.

I have a 143 degree thermostat and the guage reads about 148 while operating. Heats up to about 155 when idling after full power, before quickly cooling back down to about 148.

For starters, it would help to know exactly which engine you have. The "GT40" was a multiport EFI engine that debuted in 1995, and it didnt have the Protech ignition. There were several flavors of the Protech offered in 1991-1994, including carbureted and throttle body injected versions. Which do you have?

Had a 93' Carbureted Pro Boss with Pro-Tech ignition, did exactly what you described when the Pro-Tech began failing, ditched the Pro-Tech and problem solved.

You mentioned you had a Pro-Tech "conversion", has it been changed out or do you still have the Pro-Tech module?
