We have a no alcohol rule 24/7/365. It is the only way IMO.

No, our house is not dry...but our boat is.

There is already a lot of risk in these activities. No need to amplify it.

My rule has always been '' If you want to get drunk stay home'' easy for me because I dont drink. I always though I was in a very small minority with that rule.

Same as AT, nothing on the boat, just occasionally at home.

Long overdue. Maybe this would be a good time to try to venture back out on public water!

Anytime this can be promoted for our waterways it is a good thing. I find strange that they do this as it says the week before the 4th of July weekend. Why not the 4th when it is even more crowded and needed?

Man. Party poopers. Nothing better than a cold one after a long ride. I guess that's what happens when you grow up in a city with the highest % of under age drinkers in the country years running.

I think one goal of doing it the 24 - 26 is so that (rational) folks will have heard about the recent arrests and trouble from the prior weekend and factor that into their decision making during the 4th of July holiday weekend, IMO.

I'm all for the sobriety check points. I allow people to drink (light beer only, so not really drinking) on my boat, but the driver, me, doesn't have a drop until the boat is done moving for the day. Too much responsibility to mess with it!

This is not meant to sound callous, but watching the drunks come into the harbor and, among other mishaps, try to trailer their boats at the end of the day has become somewhat of a pasttime that I noticed during a vacation over the 4th of July a few years back. Annually, folks drive their golf carts down to the ramp and sit on the bridge overlooking the harbor to watch the show. Not my cup of tea; we seldom boat there during the holidays as it is definitely not G-rated, let alone the real potential for getting caught up in the crossfire of poorly operated boats.
