Nautique 216 Tee Bones a Tige

Last night while watching the sun just set on our dock the peace was shattered when a Nautique and Tige collided

While we were looking in that direction we did not witness the accident at the precise moment of impact since it was just off to the side of the sunset

We know the Tige had dropped a boarder and was either sitting idle or was taking off with a boarder in tow

The Nautique was pretty much going full speed and hit the Tige in the centre Passenger Side and launched itself right over the Tige leavings it propeller and shaft embedded into the passenger side of the boat

There were about 6 people in each boat and as of now I understand there were only "relatively" minor injuries

My friend took one occupant from the Tige to a waiting ambulance and I towed the Nautique as it was taking on water to a nearby boat ramp where it sunk on the ramp and a couple occupants were attended to by ambulance staff

Even though this was a terrible crash it could have been much worse

I do not know who was at fault and assume both drivers were responsible adults

Earlier in the day when I was teaching my son to drive our boat on the busy waterways I was constantly telling him to check over his shoulder and to drive defensively...

I write this as a reminder to us all ... that we have to avoid becoming distracted even for a second!!

Did the 216 drive into the port side of the Tige? Meaning, was the position of the Tige at 12 O'clock relative to the 216 (or anywhere between 12 and 4 O'clock?)

I think if one moving boat hits another stationary boat, it is pretty clear who is at fault. As I Nautique owner I would like to think that all Nautique owners are responsible people (like the good folks who frequent this site), but occassionally I am reminded that even Nautiques have some a-hole owners out there.

I guess I am the a-hole here ... my son just showed me a picture from last night and it was not a Nautique but rather an older Malibu 21 LSV ... I have been pretty freaked out the last 24 hours

From all reports so far the Tige was stationary and the Malibu drove full speed into the Tige - Mid Ship Port Side
There were some serious injuries to a young girl in the Tige

We have a 230 and 200 so I am not that familiar with the look of the 216's - Sorry!

Maybe there is someway to change the title of this Thread?? I really screwed up !! My wife has disowned me !!

Jeff how can I change the title?

Moral of the story is to make people aware to avoid something like this happening again

        Sorry again to Nautique Nation

Scary stuff regardless of the boat mfg. Spent the weekend out on the lake. What a bleeping zoo! We had a guy buzzing around the lake that had no idea what he was doing. My kids were on the lake and they named him "Malidouche" because he had a Malibu. Pulling out in front of other boats, pulling skiers the wrong way and WAY to close to the shore and rafts/docks etc. I hate seeing that.

Sadly I have been on the lake when a jet ski has plowed into a boat but never when two boats collide. My prayers go out to all involved.

You are right and the original Thread started without my knowledge who was at fault - but it is now being reported that the Mailbu hit a stationary boat going full out

The lake was busy all day but at the time of the crash there were only two boats the whole area ... and they were the ones in the crash ... just unbelievable

Even if the Tige was going 30MPH he still had the right of way. You have the right away of boats approaching from your port. Tragic either way.

I suppose they checked the driver of the Malibu for alcohol. I pray he was sober. Hope the little girl will be ok.

                Regards!

WOW I hope everybody is ok. We put a wetsounds ws420 in our boat. At first the microphone was cool, but we have found it to be a safety device. We are also telling people they are riding to close to our skiers. Telling the river lice (jet skies) to back off our wake ETC...It has become a good device.
