Question regarding selling boat to a Buyer getting long distance financing

I have a Sale and Purchase Agreement on my 2009 206 Team. Luckily the Buyer is local/in state so he was able to look at the boat with only a short drive. He works for a large corp and will be obtaining financing from his credit union but their home office is in Houston. The credit union rep said they would have to have the Cert of Origin prior to sending me a check. Obviously I would prefer to exchange the Cert of Origin for the check in person but their not being local is preventing this.

Any of you guys dealt with a sale like this?

Yes I have heard of this. If you need a third party in Houston to trade the cert for a check...I can do it.
    Who is the credit union?

When I sold my last boat, I had the money wired to my account and confirmed by my bank before I ever left the driveway to deliver the boat half way to the new owner. That credit union should have no trouble wiring the funds to you.

When I bought mine out of state. I got the boat from the dealer on Saturday and the CU wired money on Monday. The did this at my request and was quite willing to go either way.

I guess it depends on who draws the line and who is willing to walk away.

I guess we kind of split the middle. Our sale and purchase agreement stated that the CU would get the docs before sending the funds but I would get to keep the boat until good funds have been received.

Thanks again Airtool for your kind offer; I am very much obliged! I just received an e-mail with a tracking number for the FedEx package with the check so if all goes well the boat will be sold as of tomorrow (and I’m already having second thoughts).

I’ve seen the pictures of your fine ride Airtool so no need to be jealous!

I really liked my 206. From the slalom course to non-competitive wakeboarding it is an awesome family boat. Both kids are in college now and I guess we started them too late because they just never fell in love with the boating experience and could take it or leave it.

Now I’ve got to start looking for my next boat. We have 3 promo’s on the lake where I ski but I will need a backup for the busy weekends and times when their boats are sold and they are waiting for the new one’s (like earlier this spring).
