    2012 Rumors?

I was curious to see if anyone had heard any info on the 2012 Nautique lineup. I have not seen much other than the thread about the possible Mapple edition 200. Other than the Electric 196, CC has been fairly quiet. Some of my favorite and clearly untrue rumors from past years:

-Budget line (like Axis; I wish they would do this)

-24' Towboat, possibly Murray Icon themed

    -Re-introduction of old models (196, 210)

I have a pretty good guess that starting with the 2012 model year, the Northwest Oregon dealer will be Active Water Sports

I was thinking a relaunch of the 91" beam 210 as a budget model would be great. :-)

I have seen some pictures floating around the internet........good changes are on the way!

Im with you on the old 210. There has always been a market for a budget boat since the new 210 came out, but now its even larger. Axis cannot build enough boats, and Mastercraft is mothballing the X1/205V hull after many years of service. (The new Illmor engines wont fit with the current deck) We can dream, but with the current management team in place at CC, it won't happen.

Pictures floating around the net? I have not seen anything on here or CCfan, where else would they be? Definately share them if you can.

Unless the more budget-friendly boats take a major bite out of CC's market share, I'd be surprised if they went down that road. IF they did, they should go down the road of Malibu, and come up with another brand name (Axis), in order to keep the Nautique brand image as it stands. Also, with only so much manufacturing space and resources, it probably wouldn't make good business sense to have a 196 and 200, or an two 210 versions. In the end, they may just cannibalize each other in sales, with a zero net gain?

Anyway, back to the thread - I've only heard of the Mapple 200 signature edition.

I dont think the budget boats are taking market share from the big three, they are taking it from the lower teir companies and the used market. Axis has not hurt Malibu, mainly because the target for the boat is different. There aren't too many people cross shopping 50k boats with 80k boats. To me, a budget 210 with few options woundnt be competition to the current 210. As far as manufacturing, I have zero first hand knowledge of CCs production schedules. Maybe that would be the sticking point. They could always do a budget line and cap production at a low number. Unfortunately, that would also increase demand and the asking price.

When do the 2012s start production? August?

Axis took Chattwake away from Nautique, and he buys a new boat every year. By the sound of his posts, he's not coming back to Nautique any time soon. He doesn't hate Nautique, but the A22 offered him everything he wanted for a lot less money (and in his opinion, a better wake than the 230). So we have at least one person who has owned several Nautiques go over to a "budget" line.

2012's usually come out late August/early sept.

I don't disagree on the price point thing. Add sales tax, and a base 200 is just out of my comfort zone for a toy. I miss a fully-decked, new $40k 196. Sadly for me Nautiques are increasing in price at a higher rate than my salary.

Born into Nautique loyalty has actually saved me a bunch of money these days. I'm very happy sitting back from the new-boat table and picking up the gently used scraps. Personally, I can say that a price-point boat would not change that.

Budget or not, the price decline of a new boat still applies. Stick that 2011 A22 next to a Mint 08 210 and watch the 5 year price curve.

^ This is a theory. There is not enough data available to know whether or not this is true. It will depend largely on how well Axises hold up (mechanically) over time. Their build quality is reportedly significantly better than some of the other budget boats out there. Time will tell.

No offense, but of course the '11 Axis is going to have a greater price decline than an '08 210. A fair comparison would be looking at same year boats, the '08 has already had 2-3 years to depreciate.

I'll jump on the same wagon as Chattwake; you will not see a brand new Nautique in my driveway again simply due to how much they cost. 80+k for a wakeboard boat? Please, I'm not professional and don't get any special deals, so my '08 will stay around a long time. You put my '08 against a new 210 (same extra ballast), the wake will be the same and I will ride just the same, so I see no benifit in a new boat at this time.

I will say that if for some reason I had to sell due to get back a percentage of cash back due to hard times, when the time was ride I could buy another, I'd look at Axis.

No offense, but ya, that's my point. "Price point" boat... is just that, price is the point. As buyer where price is the point... I choose to buy used. I'd rather buy the boat that has already taken that first 2-3 year decline that was built originally on a higher standard and which price decline is already beginning to slow.

And yes this is a theory because Axis is a brand new company, but again making the same point... today, if I was to buy a boat I would pick the likely priced 2-3 yr old Nautique over the brand new boat that has yet to prove itself.

Time will tell the real balance between the depreciation curves.

Simply put, just trying give an opinion. Boating, and which boat is for you, is intensly personal so it's a hard arguement either way.
