Ok, so i recieved my PerfectPass today and i installed. The installation was straight forward once i got going. I couldn't run the servo wire through the hole behind the kick board. It was too filled up. So i ran it through the battery compartment area through the hole in there. It worked pretty good. BUT when i start it up and it says inital hours i press up and it beeps and displays again. I then try to click menu and chose MPH, then press up. when i press up, it bounces back to the initial hours screen.

Any help?? Did i wire something wrong or am i missing something...

Seems to me like you simply need to enter the current number of engine hours correctly & make sure they are saved.
I am pretty sure you enter the hours with the button & should lock them in.
Once you get it working you'll never own a boat without it. PP is the single best invention for towsports IMO

Running that servo wiring on the 98 is a bear. I finally gave up and let my dealer do it. My cables were zip tied to one another and I couldn't use any of them to fish it through and I did not want to run it through the battery box. As mentioned, you need to input the hours on your hour meter before going forward.

I called Perfect Pass and told what happened and they said that the Module and or the Display Gauge is really messed up. Like, if you hit any button it will show a blue screen or it will just beep and display the initial hours screen once again.

So, they said they are sending me a bunch of new parts so i can replace what is wrong.

And, running that wire through the battery compartment was no easy task either. But i couldn't get it through the actual hole in front of the drivers kick board. I just had too many pipes and tubes running through there. I couldn't get the fish down more than 6 inches. But it actually works fine through the battery compartment. Now all i need is for it to work properly : (

Just went this morning at 5 AM. It was worth every cent. It would hold a steady 34.2 or whatever straight through the course no problem once i got it all adjusted. I found that using RPM mode is better overall on our river. Especially in the course because it is in a very calm cove behind a sandbar.

Did you make that Perfect Pass installation instruction thread yet? Your images and descriptions were VERY helpful.

                    Perfect Pass

                    Hello;

Did you use your perfect pass in classic mode or gps mode? The reason I ask. is because I had the opportunity to try perfect pass star gazer. We found that it worked better in the classic mode rather than gps mode. Why, I do not know.

On the flip side my other friend has a new 2010 Ski Nautique 200 with zero off. That is strictly a gps system and it holds the speed perfect every time.

IMO, since zero off is a direct link to the computer which tells the engine how fast to go, I don't see how perfect pass will ever be as accurate as zero off. Perfect Pass modulates a servo motor, and the servo motor modulates the throttle. To much lost motion.

I guess this is the advantage of the DBW throttle systems. Everything is computed in milli-seconds.

                    Just my Opinion.

                    Dan, the skier Man

No, it works pretty good! The reason classic may have worked is because of currents or something.

I use my PP in RPM mode and it works like a charm.

I find my PP to be just as accurate as ZO

When you say RPM mode, what do you mean; Classic or GPS Mode??? When we made our test, it was on a lake with no current. Maybe the unit was not set up properly.

RPM mode means you set the PP to hold a certain RPM instead of MPH. RPM mode is a super smooth pull, but you will slow down in power turns, which is the opposite of MPH mode, where you speed up in power turns.

Thanks chexi, i wasn't sure how to explain it. But the thing with RPM mode is that you have to pre set it to what you think. So what i do is, set it to 3400 RPM and see what speed it gets through the course. Then you make minor tweaks per skier. But, if you create a name group it is much simpler. The RPM is preset to the general speed, say 34mph, and if i want to go faster or slower you slightly tweak the RPM's. For example, my set up is called DEREK. its in RPM. i have the RPM's preset to 3500 because of the pull while skiing brings it to 34mph. If i want to bump it up a bit, i will make it 3525 RPM's.

What version of PP do you have? A paddle wheel or what? Mine is the latest one and the RPM i have set up to GPS.

How many passes does it take to dial in a good time? How about when you ski at another location? How does river current affect your times? These are all variables that have to be dealt with. I guess my real question is; Does Star Gazer work just like Zero Off? That is your speed from point A to point B. Zero Off adjust for these variables by GPS. Does Stargazer do the same?

Stargazer with the magnet timers will work just like that. maybe better! But, i am not entirely sure. I know almost everyone on this thread has a PP SG and they all love it. Once you get it set up, it should do exactly what you want it to do... if used correctly. On our river/lake, i use my PP SG in a custom RPM mode that is set up to each skier.
