Possibly your steering cable is seizing. Because of where the cable lies at the bottom of the boat they tend to get water inside causing them to go stiff/seize.
You should look at changing it for a new one ASAP. You don't want it snapping whilst your driving it.
    Hope this helps.

Not really difficult to do. Can just be awkward to get to as it lies underneath the engine.
Basically you disconnect the end attached at the back of the steering wheel and also disconnect the end attached to the rudder. There is also a clamp about a foot away from the rudder that will need disconnecting which holds the cable. Might be worth marking your old cable up where the clamp sits so you can get the new one in the same place.
Before you pull the cable through make sure you attach a rope or string etc to one end so as you pull it out it is replaced with the rope. Then when you put your new one in attach it to the rope and pull the rope out and your new cable should be in place. Might take a bit of jiggling around to get it through but you should be ok.
        Good luck.

You had the same problem I had. Extremely hard to steer under power but easy to steer at slow speeds. It's the rudder shaft. I took mine out after replacing the steering cable which did'nt change a thing. The shaft is NON greaseable unlike the newer ones which have a grease fitting. I took the whole rudder assembly out. The shaft was grungy. Cleaned, honed the shaft support, regreased, reinstalled, adjusted the gland and wa-la, steering works great. Correct Craft offers a updated rudder assembly, like the newer, greasable type for about 600. I will end up doing that since mine is starting to get stiff again. Thought about installing a grease fitting, but the shaft had alittle slop in it during inspection.

same thing here!!! when i got my boat, was really hard to steer and stiff. Everyone thought it was the cable, infact so did the mechanic. But then he checked Rudder and was caked up with grease. Cleaned it all out and regreased everything,,,,like new. And my arms didnt hurt anymore from driving!!!
