Im considering an opportunity to move to the Norfolk, VA area or another opportunity to move to the Richmond, VA area. Does anyone know of freshwater lakes near Norfolk?

nothing near Norfolk, but a fair amount of people go to the inter-coastal waterway near Centerville and Pungo which are in Chesapeake and Va Beach respectively, the water is brackish at best there, but I go there occasionally. If you go inland about 40 mile there is the Nottaway/Blackwater/Chowan river, I go there almost every weekend. Fresh water and secluded! IMO Richmond has better fresh water access with several lakes in under 2 hours, but Tidewater has more water activities available. Send me a PM if you want to know more. -

Where do you put in on the Nottaway/Blackwater? Is there a launch around Franklin? I think you mentioned the Nansemond in one of your other posts: how is that this time of year? Our favorite around Richmond is Lake Gaston, about 1.5 hrs drive South. Sits between VA and NC and it's 35 miles across. Beautiful setting and clean water.Comment

Thanks guys. I was hoping for something a little closer, but it may not exist. I had noticed a post by screwpusher a while back about some rivers that were relatively close and was hoping to get him to chime in. Gaston is definitely on the list, but it'll be an all day trip.
ES, is Gaston your usual haunt? Ever been to Roanoke Rapids? It looks like it might be a little closer, but probably still 2 hours. I think I'm going to try the Chowan tomorrow. Have you ever been?2004 SANTEComment
