    linc question

i had the opportunity to operate a 2011 230 yesterday that has the linc system. from my limited experience, the stereo volume control from the helm is layered beneath the main operation screen. you have to press the musical note button to get access to the stereo page, then adjust the volume accordingly. i also did not see a mute button. from a pure safety standpoint, there is no way to immediately deactivate the stereo from the helm in order to communicate with the rider, passengers, or other boaters.

    my questions are these:

    1) is there a way to immediately deactivate the stereo with the press of only one button?
    2) does linc II perform the same as linc I in this regard?

the speed control volume is not the answer...there were several times that i needed to communicate with passengers underway, on a crowded water way, and in order to do so, i had to go through more than one layer and then slowly turn the volume down. my fingers and eyes would have been better utilized if they werent consumed mashing buttons just to make it quiet....

Press the musical note button to go into stereo mode. Press bottom right button which brings up another menu. I believe the second or third button down is the mute button. Cool thing, when you accelerate, the mute automatically goes off. Another reason I AM a fan of the linc

I haven't found it documented anywhere but discovered by accident that "double-clicking" the music button will mute the stereo. The mute does get cancelled if you have speed-sensitive volume control enabled.

Coming out of an 06 196 with the remote right on the helm I was missing the ability to instantly mute as well. I've toyed around with adding an additional remote by retrofitting the insert on the lower left of the dash with the 2009 version which had the remote. I've settled down on that idea though... after playing with the speed sensitive volume I've figured out to crank it way up so that when the boat is going slow and I want to talk to someone in the water I can but once we take off the volume cranks.

COOL. Any time you are in the stereo screen and push the musical note button, the stereo mutes. As you said, you don't have to go to any sub menus. Very handy for a guy that doesn't wear his reading glasses when he drives and struggles to read the instruments.

On the 2012 version the stereo volume control is right on the main page, you no longer have to go to the second screen.

                  .
I found the same on our 2010 230 with the LINC - Mute gets cancelled once you accelerate - works great for us

Pause on the iPod works for me. I don't use the volume controls on the remote now on our 2009. I'd prefer the song I'm listening to not play while muted by the boat. Just my 2 cents of course. A true iPod dock with controls integrated into the LINC would be ideal IMO.

I agree. This lack of integration was a bit of a disappointment for me. One of the reasons I'd considered adding an additional remote like on the 2009 dash was to be able change up playlists etc. without having to dig into the glove box... seems entirely reasonable that the LINC/Clarion integration could be improved to include this. This at the end of the day though is a tiny wart... love the boat and the display.

Tap the "Note" button X2's times and it will mute the stereo. You can just play a USB iphone cable into the AUX1 port, and control from the LINC system. If you wanna use your Idevice you can get a 3.5mm headphone to headphone and plug in to the left of the wheel on AUX 2.

So Aux 1 has a USB port? Awesome, that is just what I am after. The 3.5mm left of the wheel makes it easy to control from the iPod itself if your device is small enough to fit in the tray.

                            Aarond0083,

Yes AUX1 in the glove box will be that USB port. On the LINC Stereo screen just select "AUX1" as the SOURCE mine in on right side 2nd page, and it will load all the files. I use the right knob on the stereo to change albums (think folders) and then you can navigate with <<< & >>> on the LINC Stereo Screen.

I don't use my iphone anymore due to text messages and calls while I'm out on the water. Got a cheep MP3 player and just update that before I go out and leave it on the boat, that way music still plays, I can take calls/texts check weather conditions etc.

Thanks for the info. I don't use my iPhone either. I have an older Nano that I only use on the boat.
