I find the depth of the water makes a huge difference. We can be surfing along with the perfect wake in 10+ feet of water, then all of a sudden the wake flattens out and runs back when we reach shallower areas.
    1/4 to 1/2-belly
    1/2 to 3/4 - stbd
    Full + sack + people - port
    9.5 - 9.8 mph

I surfed my old 99 Air port side with 400 in the stern locker port side + 160 lead hidden on the port side of the rear seat, about 200 starboard side stern locker plus 160 lead hidden on the starboar side of the rear seat, a full belly (about 500) and an integrated bow sac with about 350 in it. I had no one in the boat but the driver, and he didn't have to sit in the observer seat. Was it totally clean? No. Could I surf it all day long? Yes.
