I got a chance to ride in and drive a 2012 SAN 230 with the XS 550 Supercharged engine today! This thing is insane! 550 HP in a 230 is awesome!

OK, legitimate question. If wake boarding is done between 0 and 25 MPH, at what point do you say, thats enough power. If you're paying $2000-$5000 more for another 50HP, is it just for the wow factor? Is it keep up with the competition? I've never been pulled behind a Nautique and thought, this thing is too slow. In other words, why have 450HP instead of 350 other than the wow factor? Its not like boarders need to be yanked out of the water any faster. Shouldn't the barefoot boats be the ones with the powerful motors?

Hey, no doubt its always better to have more power. And given unlimited funds, I would opt for the bigger motor. I was just legitimately wondering if there is a reason other than the excitement, because I have no doubt its fun to drive!

I just feel like wakeboard boats are a more specialized tool for a particular sport than a car. You don't drag race wakeboard boats, or race them around a track. You are pulling a guy out of the water and cruising at 20.

Is there a boat race course I'm missing out on?

Supercharger sounds awesome. Should have closed the windshield and slid in the air dam for the video, engine audio would have been much sweeter.

First off ill proclaim this ahead of time before i type my next few sentences.

Im a die hard CORRECT CRAFT guy and I love fast ski boats. BUT I work at a malibu dealership so hate on me for that, is what it is I gotta get paid.

That motor looks awesome but good God as a mechanic I think Id rather spend a week with some sort of itchy STD then work on the front side of that motor. Could they make it any smaller of a space to work with?

I just checked out a 2011 23 LSV at work today with the 6.2(?) in it. That 236 makes dealing with the LSV look like a cake walk from a mechanics perspective. My hats off to those on here that work for nautique. Hope you brought some ointment for your knuckles!

For me the extra speed and HP is great to get you away from the dock and crowds and get across the lake fast to get clean spot with clean water. I think it looks sweet!

Why do we need all that horsepower? First of all the average wally doesn't need a supercharged 230. But someone that loads the boat with a few thousand pounds of ballast and some friends could certainly use all that power just to get that boat on plane. And then there's always the marketing department bragging rights - remember it's always good to be "first", "best", "most" etc... Plus it's just plain cool to have a supercharged engine in a boat.

You obviously have never driven a nautique with the extra hp. I say that because if you had you would never question why. Permagrin is all you need to feel just once and you will never go back. Power is addictive.... I am a Fully Addicited Power Junky.
