So let's see, the boat comes with an engine. Let's say is 7K. So if it's 23K extra then that is a 30K engine. Talk about ripping people off! That's more than a new ZR1 638HP supercharged GM crate motor!

There's a lot more in retail cost than just parts. The mfr needs to recoop research and dev (design, testing) costs and also have to account for ongoing costs over standard like liability, warranty, etc. Mfg is also a bit more expensive when there are fewer made. And most important, something is worth what you can get others to willingly pay, regardless of underlying costs.

The engine is definitely not for the masses, but for the person that "just has to have it at any price" this would be a sweet bragging point on your boat. For most, price is a concern, but for a select few they buy want they want regardless of cost.
