    Theme Boats - Jus Sayin

Jeff - first thanks for all the pic on a couple posts.

I'm going to ask the question, what does the CC community think of the themed boats, i.e Byerly and Mapple boats. First, I have never met Scott, but I have spoken with Mapple on 2 occasions. Mapple seemed like a good family person, so I don't think he is driving "put my name on the boat" statement. Again, I have never met Scott, so I don’t know if he is that type of person.
So would you buy a themed boat? I don’t remember seeing posts on here stating “here is a pic of my new Byerly” edition boat. I fact I have only seen one Byerly edition at Orlando Nautiques and I think it is a 2008. I was in their place about 4 months ago and it was still there!!!

Personally – I like looking at the boats, but I would NEVER spend the extra $$$’s or want somebody else’s name on the side of my boat. I think if I wanted more of a themed boat, I would go to N3 and have them create a boat for me.

I don't think these boats are really made to sell per say. They are made to show off the line and bring people in to buy other wake or ski models. They are boat show queens to bring attention to the CC line and I feel they accomplish that. Mastercraft has the PWT (Pro Wake Tour) X-Star, Supra has the Bro-stock model, Axis has the "Vandal" edition. It's nothing really groundbreaking.

I agree with Crad. I think signature boats are cool to look at, but I'd never buy one. I just wouldn't want someone's name plastered all over my boat. Special edition boats are a different story for me, ie MC's old Pro Tour 190 or a WTT, although I still don't think I'd drop the extra $$ on one. History hasn't shown any significant additional resale value on any sig boat I can think of either.

I think there is a market for these boats, but I think that market might have been misjudged with the Byerly. With the Mapple, they're only making 14 boats. That's a much more reasonable number to me.

I understand what you guys are saying about not wanting someone's name plastered all over your boat. These people are legends though, and some people have such a respect for these athletes that they might spend the extra money. I think the Mapple may be more collectible down the line, since there will be fewer made. I also find the Mapple to be a bit more elegant in terms of not having a name in huge letters dowthe side of the hull. The Mapple has Andy's logo throughout the boat, but the only places you find his name are othe stern and on the piece on the side where the boat number (x of 14) is located.

I would consider a Murray Icon Edition if and when it actually comes out. That is of course until the PlanetNautique Special Edition becomes available!

But they are such good looking boats. Why not take those styling points to the masses without the endorsements.

            Personally, not a fan.

That said, I do like the idea of offering different styles and options and giving it a name much like the original idea was with the team edition.

It's most definately a collector type 200. Having met and talked with Andy twice at Performance Ski in Orlando, and him being the greatest skier of all time, If I had the jack, I'd buy one. Loud and boisterous it isn't.

The Mapple 200 is a sharp looking boat and I like some of the details incorporated. Having said that, if I'm going to pay 95k for a 200 the only name I want to see on it is mine. I never cared for the Sammy Duval MC's when they came out and feel the same about this one.

I believe, but could very possibly be wrong, that with the Duvall edition Mastercraft, you got a gear reduction transmission.

No, you could get the "powerslot" 1.5:1 as an option on any of the 190's. The Sammy versions were metal flake with Duval embroidered in the seats. Nice boats at the time, just not for me.

The gen 1 byerly is. Amazing. Much more byerlyesque. But the new one has it's own niceties. Fwiw, byerly is a huge family man( 2 daughters, one marriage I think) and is a humble man as well.

                              I'd Buy It!!!

I think the Mapple Edition is really cool looking. When I think of who I consider the best slalom skier in the world ever was...Andy comes to my mind instantly!!!
Much like some people would pick either Nicklaus or Woods for golf without having to think twice! To me Andy is the icon of the sport and to top it off a super nice
                              guy.
When a company produces a limited Edition and only so many are built you know you have to pay extra. The people that would buy this boat would be in there
mid 40's and up, they are in a positon to spend the extra coin and also they would recongnize who Andy Mapple is. I think it must be a real honour for Andy to have a boat built in his name. It is not that CC just added his name to the outside of the boat but the whole boat is designed around him including the new carbon fiber being used in the
                              construction.

Andy has worked hard for CC over the years so I feel its not just his skiing alone that has given CC their insentive to build a boat in his name.

Now on another note someone mentioned Sammy and his special edition MC. Lets just say Sammy would be one of the last guys I would
ever want endorsing a boat I owned.
