    Bumped in to dock!!!!

    Hello,

We bumped the back right corner of the boat in to a metal pole on the dock today. Luckily all it hit was the rub rail. It bent the rub rail a little and I think snapped one of the screws. I can see that the fiberglass under the rub rail got smashed down a little, enough to make some surface hair fractures. Looks-wise, I won't even notice it in a couple days but do I need to worry about it? Repairs?

    Thanks!

It shouldn't create a huge problem...

We had a BIG and pretty deep scratch on the hull of our 95 Sport Nautique. It was created from the little V bunk in the front of the trailer. Apparently, one of the screws was going through the wood bunks and it scratched the hull while loading the boat. Pretty badly :-(

Anyways, Pacific Nautiques took a look at it and said it was just a hair line scratch. Nothing to worry about, but obviously it could be repaired. Anyways, it is a pretty deep scratch.

I think your will be fine ;-)

      Derek,

Thank you for the reassurance. I was worried because the damage was caused by the rub rail "being pushed in to" the fiber glass. If we would have "swiped" past the dock and got a little damage I would be less concerned, but because this was more of a "backing straight in to something".... I wasn't sure if those little surface hairlines could me possible more underneath. It probably nothing and I am just paranoid.

      THanks!

Ya. you are probably paranoid just like i am and probably everyone on here when something little happens to these boats.lol

But anyways, i am no expert, but you should be fine. As long as there isnt a major hole and water is rushing through it. And the spot you are are describing does not sound like a high-stress point. I was worried about the deep scratches in the front of our sport nautique because the location is exactly were the water breaks on the front hull area. But it looks butter now. The water pressure and what not must have smoothed it out a bit ;-)

How did you back into a dock????

On the surface, I disagree with all this chatter....especially not seeing pics.

You can probably wait until winter but I'd carefully take the rub rail filler out and remove enough screws to pull the rub rail back and look at the glass. If it is only some hairline cracks, you might want to round the end of the cracks before they grow. If some glass damage has been done, winter is a great time to get it fixed.

you might even make an insurance claim.

Derek, wife was driving, dropping me at the dock, wind blowing hard and turned it sideways, she reversed a little too hard and pull back left corner in to metal pole on the dock. Not pretty.

Airtool, with your post I actually think two things.... it probably isn't a big deal, but I am anal enough that I want to check it out more. I will post some picture to see what you guys think. For my 2006 SANTE 220 is the rub rail just a rubber piece, a metal piece, and some screws? I mean if I undo a few screws around the back corner am I going to easily be able to pull back the rub rail? Or is there some sort of "Trick" or super crazy adhesive or anything like that?

            Thanks!

here is a link to the parts. No tricks or glue. If you have the SS center cover, that might be a pita. When you take the screws out, re-start them by turning CCW until you feel them drop into the previous thread, then CW to tighten. The hot sun will make the rubber more friendly.

Can you see any of the damage from inside the hull?
