    Are keypad lockups normal?

As some are aware, we have had a string of electrical problems since the day we purchased our 211 TE. Thought we had it fixed a few weeks ago and actually got in 3 outings without any issues - a record. On our 4th outing since the most recent repairs (new keypad, MPE, bilge pump, blower) the keypad became totally non-responsive. No buttons would do anything. Turned off power at on/off/bilge for a couple of minutes and then back on and all seems to be functioning well again.

How normal is it that it occasionally locks up and has to be power cycled like this?

    Thanks,

I don't know how "normal" it is, but the same thing happened once (maybe twice) to my 2007 211 TE. I think it was during the first season of use in summer '08 and it hasn't happened since. I chalked it up to a computer glitch. It seems to be fine now and the boat has been completely trouble-free.

It happened to me one time shortly after I bought my boat in 2008. CC West replaced the keypad but said it was a precautionary measure as they couldn't duplicate the problem. It hasn't happened since...I don't know if that's because it was just a one-time thing or if it's because the keypad was the problem.

Thanks guys. Hopefully this is just a one-time glitch.

It might be time to change your master toggle switch (All On/Off/Bilge). Those can go bad and will cause the voltage to the keypad to become inconsistent. In the All On position, my keypad was getting enough voltage to light up and let me input my code, but when I tried to start it would shut down. If I played with the toggle switch and put pressure on it in the On position everything was fine again.

I replaced the switch and it took care of my problem. The switch is only $6 and takes 5 minutes to replace so it can't hurt to try.

Thanks Shonuff. It's been replaced once already, but I'll check it next time (if there is one, hopefully not) the keypad locks up. I think this switch only controls the PME relays so shouldn't have any impact on voltage level to the keypad.
