Getting to be an un-happy nautique owner!

All boats have sealant between the hull and the deck. The factory screwed up this time and should fix their mistake. That's pretty much a given here.

But a new boat? That's like saying a car dealership should give you a new car if if they deliver a car to you with a defective tire. It just doesn't make sense to me. Let them fix it. It is a simple fix.

A tire wouldn't be a good analogy as it's a part that wears out over time no matter what and requires replacement. If my brand new car leaked water through a seal in the door, trunk, or moon roof when it rained because of a half a$$ job, no question I would be getting a replacement.

I understand things can happen but mistakes like this should never ever happen, not even once. Either QA needs to step it up or they need someone on the line caulking these joints that takes more pride in their work. A tired worker on a Friday rushing to finish isn't an excuse. I know that is harsh but when you're spending this kind of money you have every right to be.

I agree Jeff. ****, that is so simple, I'd tell them to send me the proper filler and I'd do it myself. My dealer is 3 hours away so I'd much rather do the repairs myself vs towing it there. Show me any new product that is this complex that does not have an issue here and there.

You already did the hard part in removing the rub rail. Just get the right stuff and squeeze it in. I can't imagine it taking more than a minute or so. If you are concerned with the proper way of doing it, call the factory, I'm sure they will be more than helpful.

You think you can get a new car because of a leak in a sunroof? Good luck.

I love the differing opinions here. It will be interesting to see what the outcome is and whether the original poster is satisfied with the results. I'll be watching this one!

I do think he is entitled to a new boat. This is a defective product. When you get down to it, the very first thing a boat should do is float without taking on water. When you spend the kind of money we do on a boat, a simple patch doesn't fly with me. How in the **** does that boat leave the factory???? How does it make it past the dealer inspection?? Sorry, but I would be livid.

It is a physical impossibility for that boat to have been sunk by that opening in the hull. While it is regrettable that it was missed, as many have said it is a simple fix. There is a void in the caulking, not some structural issue with the boat. Your profile shows that you're and engineer, so you should have a pretty good idea that this is nothing more than a regrettable mistake and a pain in the butt for the owner. If you really believe that he needs a new boat because of this I would hate to be your dealer!

Sure, he can fix it himself but fixing your own brand new $80,000 boat isn't ok with me. It's the principal alone IMO. Sure a replacement of the entire boat is pushing it but I can assure you I'd be all over Nautique if this was my boat and not the dealer, what does he have to do with it other than playing middleman for his customer and boat that wasn't a properly finished product. ****, it's embarrassing for Correct Craft too and luckily this is an enthusiast forum where only die hard fans are reading about it. It wasn't just one side either but both sides. It's ridiculous to just say oh well, they made a mistake and I'll just fix it myself.

Hmm. Not an engineer. Bean counter and sorry, but if this had happened to my new boat, I'd be a tad miffed. Again, I bought my first Nautique this year and love it. No problems whatsoever and I love the dealer. I think the factory and the dealer where wrong to miss that and if I put my new $$$ boat in the lake and water started coming in, I'd be lit. No getting around it and I'm a pretty easy going guy.

Funny, but when I handed my dealer a bunch of $$$, he loved me!! ;-)

I'd tow my boat to the factory, ask what moron was responsible, and demand a new boat. They can afford it. If not, I'd switch brands immediately. Simply out of principal. I realize this is overboard thinking, but...if something so simple is overlooked, on the exterior, what's next?

So, a simple mistake is made where 6" of caulk is missing. Ya'll want to trash Nautique, threaten the worker and send the $80k boat to the trash dump? We have some seriously disturbed people on here. Hey OP, where do you live? I'll fly out there and take the 5 minutes to squeeze the caulk in and I don't even work for Nautique. I'll even bring my $5 caulk gun!

If it was a structural defect in the hull, and they refused to fix it, I could see the anger. But for 6" of caulk on the underside of the seam behind the rub rail?? Not sure what dealer prep would have caught that.... In every case I have seen, Nautique has stood behind every little issue.

I can promise you the dealer would be more than happy to fix this with FULL support of Nautique if you don't want to do it yourself. I'm kinda laughing when I say that. I can just imagine a full team of Nautique engineers flying to who knows where, wearing white lab coats and caulk guns in hand! Hahaha!

Must be nice to never make mistake.

CD, the decreasing minutes of daylight and onset of winter are putting people in the wrong way. We see it every year.

You bring up a good point that is slightly OT and not directed at you. Just some trivia directed at ALL and kudos to Jeff and this site.
When I met with Bill Yeargin last December in his office, (I don't want to quote him) but he commented on this site, Jeff, and the (somewhat) free speech allowed on this site. My understanding (from listening) is that he believed the discussion was healthy for the site, customers, and definitely CC. Other mfg's somewhat sanitize what is posted. CC and Jeff don't do that. I can only remember one or two occasions where posts/threads have been deleted or lock.

I don't think ANYONE in this thread is suggesting that there is not a problem here. The disagreement seems to be with the proper resolution.

the issue is definitely with quality control. i'm assuming we all love the brand and the boats. i know i do. but you can't blindly love something. every single thing must be evaluated in order to determine it's value. i can tell you that if i purchased another product for 70-80k, and it came with a defect i would expect someone at my door as soon as time and distance would allow for a free repair and HUGE butt kissing. reasons like the OP occuring are why i do not own a mastercraft any more. my closest dealer is 3 hours away, and thats only one way. it's amoral to expect the consumer to deal with this and take time out of his/her life. a company based on christian values should follow the golden rule, "do unto others..." i'm quite positive this will be rectified and the owner will be happy; however, for those who think it's not a big deal you need to realize that not everyone out there is a mechanic or has the knowledge some of you have. if i had a bugatti i'm not changing the oil even though i can do it on my yukon. finally, i do appreciate the fact that aside from foul language, this site does not censor it's users like many of the other ones. if i'm ever not broke im going to donate a franklin for sure.
