Big time props to TX-Foilhead and Mrs. TX-Foilhead for letting my wife and me tag along at the Fly In on Saturday and helping me get up for the first time and even ride for a bit. Thanks for the fun and the patience.

Scott great to meet you and your wife. I finally rolled up to the house last night about 8:30, 4 days of riding and 5 nights of epic parties and I'm completely spent. Glad you guys could make it out and we could spread our addiction, always fun to meet some new people that we've talked to online and put names with faces.

Well... I did some half flips and some little jumps... but not on purpose!
I think when they say flying, the refer to simply raising up the board so you are riding just on the foil... but I could be wrong. Flying might be jumping completely out of the water.
I took me several times to get up. Ultimately, we had a great guy (Geoff) get in the water and steady me a couple times. We had to also increase the acceleration on the initial pull out of the water. Those 2 things got me up. Then the key is learning when to lean forward after you first pop out of the water and start raising up (in order to stop yourself from raising up too much). Now

There was some flying going on, but mostly learning how to 'taxi' or how to turn with the board on the water. The movements that make everything work are small and not always obvious from the boat. Next step is to start sitting upright and learning to fly.
It takes a little more time than other watersports to get the basics down because it's totally different except for holding a handle. Once you figure out how to get up though the rest is fun and the flying is effortless so you can work on it as long as somebody is willing to drive you around. It doesn't require much effort until you start learning inverts and loading the line up, but even then you can rest some and just fly behind the boat.
