    Caddo Lake, TX

Anyone on here familiar with the area where hwy 43 goes over the river there at the mouth of Caddo?

The lakes here in Texas are in horrible shape... not too many place you can go at the moment. I was wanting to take a weekend camping trip and enjoy the weather now that the 100+ days have broken here. We went to Broken Bow, OK two weeks ago (beautiful place). I guess if I can't find out anything about the condition of Caddo we will just make another trip up there... I'm spoiled with river riding but our favorite places (three different rivers) are either a streams right now or you can't get a boat in at the ramp. : (

    Thanks!

Last I heard, that portion of Caddo was still okay, but there are other parts of Caddo (on the big lake) that, according to an old timer my father in law spoke to, is the lowest he has ever seen it.

I couldn't tell from your post if you are familiar with Caddo, but if you are not, my advice would be to not put your boat in there unless you have someone with you who is familiar with it. Caddo is a beautiful lake, but is full of stumps and one wrong turn or drifting out of the channel if you are not paying attention can result in thousands of dollars of hull and running gear damage. I have been going there for over 10 years and my wife has been going there all of her life and even we are not immune from Caddo's hidden hazards (banged up our prop and a tracking fin this past July). So please be cautious, particularly given how low the lake is right now, even if it might still be navigable.
