Does the hydro gate makes a wake that can be realized just by looking from the boat are just small changes?

You can see it from the boat, and you know its in play when you ride. When I move it from slalom to wakeboard mode it "sharpens" and cleans up the peak of the wake...2010 Super Air Nautique 210 Team Edition

Lowering the hydrogate might be useful for skiing--I have no knowledge. But, IMHO, it is a "wake destroyer" wrt wakeboarding. It will mush the top of the wake when engaged (e.g. when the plate is lowered creating more lift at the stern). It's noticeable visually from the boat and appears as wash at the top of the wake.
It's useful when used to lower the bow for a more comfortable ride in chop or to help a heavily loaded boat get on plane.Previous boats:

The plate really just controls propwash more than wakesize. This reduces the rooster tail for slalom at shorter lines (in slalom mode) or cleans up and sharpens the lip of the wake (in wakeboard mode). Doesn't really change the size of the wake, at least not on a 211.

older 3 event boats had a "hook" at the transom (subtle downward turn where the hull bottom meets the transom). this forced the bow down, helping the boat plane, and force the stern up, helping to minimize the wake. as you might imagine, in an effort to created the biggest wake for wakeboarders, a hook is not advantageous. removing it allows the hull to sink, but then allows the bow to rise when the boat is getting on plane. the hydrogate (and every other "wakeplate") allow wakeboats to throw larger wakes when not engaged, and help the boat to get on plane when engaged. they all mimic "hook" when they are in the down position....
