I would start with some Tide (no bleach) and some warm water. Very mild solution and a soft bristled brush. Rinse well.

A pressure washer on low pressure works well, too.

Afterward, you will need to retreat with 303 Fabric Guard to reinstate the water/UV resistance. That's the stuff with the Green Label (not aerospace protectant). Don't apply it anywhere near the boat.

Do not wash the cover on the boat. Guess where the dirt will go. No need to ask how I know this.

If you get too aggressive with a pressure washer, it will make holes in the cover. I know this from personal experience also.

The spray wand at the gas station is a good pressure washer alternative. Like Daniel said, don't get to close or go full blast with it.

what is the best way to apply the cover guard? i mean if you cant do it on the boat, do you just lay it on the ground?

Lay it on the ground, pour the fabric guard into a cheap deck sprayer that you can toss later, and apply liberally. Let it dry thoroughly and you're done.

Instead of laying it on the ground, I laid it over several spread out iron patio chairs and a table. Saw horses or portable work benches would be another option.
