    2012 Trash Can Feature - -

Whats the forums thoughts on getting or not getting the Built in Trash Can Assembly on a new 230 ? My thoughts:

    1. Seems functional for weekend family boating with eats and drinks etc.
    2. Having the trash can in place takes up a lot of storage access under the main passenger seat area

The setup of the area where the trash access door tilts open is built slightly different with trash can versus no trash can.....(blue picture below is setup for no can / and red is setup for the can)

As a 230 owner, which are you more likely to go with Trash Can or No Trash Can ??

Love the trash can idea. I own a few of these and give them to boating friends for presents. They are great if u don't want the can option. Weighted on the bottom with sand and they hold ALOT.

one of the most genius applications of the trash can in a boat was on the 220. easily accessible and placed in otherwise useless space. i had a 220 before my 230. i completely removed the trash can and hanger from the trash can door and placed a smaller can with lid (from the container store) directly behind the drivers seat similar to that of the 220. now i have even more storage under the observers seat, an access door to the storage, and a more functional trash can....

I'm slightly confused by your answer - is that a vote to order or don't order the waste can receptacle??

its actually a vote to bring back the port and starboard humps of the 220 interior and place it in the 230 hahaha.
a trash can is invaluable. if your focus is an inegrated solution that is out of reach of most people in the main cabin, then option it.
if your focus is just to have one available, plunk down $8 for a cheap can at the container store and tuck it behind the drivers chair where it will be within the entire cabins reach.

I danced around it. But the 230 I spent time in the owner didn't like it after the fact because of all the room it sucked up and the little use it got in the overall picture.

              Tdc--

The more I think about it - the real value and benefit may be to get it - then remove the can and brackets
And have the access door as a great way to get to all that under passenger seat storage without having to
Ask people to get up off the seat to get to the storage area...

Is this kind of what ur saying ?

For an easy solution my wife just ties a plastic bag to one of the grab bars. It often does not stay in place and occasionally trash flies out. While running it makes a lot of noise and is annoying and looks bad but those are just minor annoyances. It's the best solution because its cheap and it won't every require any maintenance.

I'm a fan of the trash can. It is a good size so it can fit quite a few cans and plastic bottles. I love the fact that it's out of the way. There is so much other storage in a 230 that the amount of space the trash can takes up is minimal, in my opinion. The trash can behind the drivers seat that tdc mentions is a good concept, but I don't think it would be big enough, at least not for my crew.

get it. worst case scenario you dont use it or remove it. the cost is negligble on a $90k boat.

au contraire. we are professionals. also, i have a can crusher installed to minimize the trash...as long as women and wallies dont insist on bringing a bartles and james, zimas, or other hard containers it will last longer than your liver will....

Glass is never permitted on my boat so no issue there. Cans and plastic are the only things allowed on the boat. And the only beverages are light beer and water so there are no accidental stains or stickiness. Is the trash can you put behind the drivers seat as large as the one in the trash can compartment? How do you secure it? There really isn't a lot of space behind the drivers seat unless you move the seat all the way forward and take out the rear-facing back-rest. I would love to see a picture if you have it. Your innovation could change my way of thinking...

                        Tdc...

Definitely not the cost of the feature that I'm worried about--

It's things like - does it rattle when the boats in motion, how well will it hold up,
Does it look good as compared to the look without it, etc etc

I wish there were some really detailed pictures as my dealer doesn't have any boats with this feature - of
Course they only have one 2012 in stock 230 at this time

We have a 2010 230 Team without a Trash Can and we would definitely consider a trash can in our next boat

I had the 220 as a loaner for a while and really liked the Trash Can feature

The 230 has enough storage in our opion that the amount you would lose for the Trash Can would be acceptable

This has been my experience as well. That said we're not running extra ballast so I store most of my gear in back... if that weren't the case I may be a little more inclined to improvise. Regarding your question about noise... nothing I notice. The only thing I find annoying is the fact that with the air dam open (default position in my boat) you need to open two doors to get to the trash.
