    Clutched water pump for ballast!

I was thinking about potentially using additional magnetic clutched raw water pump(s) to fill and empty my ballast. Has anyone heard or seen anything like this? Just thought I would try bouncing the idea off people and get a discussion going!

I like the way you think. I have thought about it as well but thats about as far as I've gone with the idea.

+1 on the thought. Sounds interesting, not reversible...

I see using an A/C type of clutch, and if you got creative with a drive pulley system, could figure out a way to reverse it! We saw a fire boat pumping @ our lake this summer and it got me thinking as well...
Maybe the easiest way to empty is to run a pump facing the opposite direction, and then clutches on both pumps...hmmm.

Just run valves to reverse the water flow.

But my 4 year old impeller fill, aerator drain system has been trouble free since I converted the fill aerators and eliminated the flow wrong valves. This is probably an easier solution.

Methinks this would be a very expensive project.

              Here's the pump: http://www.johnson-pump.com/JPMarine...5000-5006.html

I'm sure it's expensive..... and mounts would have to be fabricated..... but I like the idea!
