    speaker installation on 2001

I have a 86' Silver Nautique. My winter project is to install 4 speakers along the side walls in the interior. I've figured out my amp and deck mounts underneath the dash. The problem I'm having is figuring out how to secure the speaker boxes to the side of the boat.

My plan is to make thin boxes to house the speakers, carpet them, then secure them in some way to the sides of the boat (2 right next to the rear seat and 2 up front behind the driver seat and rear facing passenger seat). My problem is, I don't want to use screws that risk piercing the boat hull (super thin!).

The only idea I've found, is to strip back the carpet, use a resin apoxy to adhear the box directly to the hull, and the recarpet everthing. I do not like that idea becuase the carpet is in perfect shape, and I don't think I can re-carpet the hull, with the box as clean as I would like it.

Had anyone come up with ANY idea to attached speaker boxes to the side of the hull?
I welcome ideas - thank you!

Try Correctcraftfan.com if youre trying to add speakers while retaining the originality of the boat... lots of good advice over there.

Have you ever noticed how one side of velcro will "stick" to carpeted areas? Just a thought.
The lake is calling and I must go.

I have an 84 Ski Nautique 2001 and I can post pics by the end of the week for you. I have a pretty sick stereo system.

I made a pod for a 6.5" speaker that I relocated from the kickboard to the side of the hull just in front of the throttle. I cut a wooden base plate that was the same shape as the base of the pod. cut a notch in it for speaker wire, and epoxied 3 bolts in place (drilled through the plate). I used epoxy putty to attach the plate to the hull under the carpet with the bolt ends sticking through and then used nuts to secure the pod to the plate. If I ever had to remove it, I figured I could cut the bolts flush and it wouldn't be very noticeable. Reattaching the carpet was no problem in this spot. I just hit the hull and inside of the carpet with some 3M #77 spray and it re-adhered just fine.

Here is the thread chronicling the project.

We have a 83 SN we put a really nice stereo in. We built a small speaker box that extends up under the side rails, that way when mounted the screws are underneath the uphoulstry and you dont see anything but the speaker. We also use a Kicker L7 and built a custom box in the bow but still retained all of the original storage. Then built a board also under the bow where our amp sits out of sight. The only thing you see are the tower speakers and the rail speakers. Instead of a head unit we use two kickers volume controls, one for the tower and one for the cabin speakers that way your not blasting everyone out while someone is boarding. I set it up for an Ipod only becuase its to hard to put a head unit in an older and make it look nice. The best part is I can pull it all out and you would never know it was there, no hacking. If interested I can post pics on how we did it. Hope this helps........

East Tx Skier - that's a great idea. I may adjust my box design and use some of your idea...very sharp!

rman56 - i would love to see a picture of your L7 box. I am trying to figure out how to keep my storage and would love the help. I have a a 12" Kicker Comp VR I plan to put in the nose.
