    Running out of water

I am looking at buying a 1986 Nautique 2001. I want to start it up and see how it runs. It has been sitting for a while and doesn't have a battery. What do I need to do to be able to start it up out of the water? I'm obviously going to need a battery, and maybe some new gas? I have seen people hooking hoses up to the engine? I don't know, I am very new to the whole boat scene, please enlighten me.

    Good luck first of all..
i have an 85 2001 if your boat does not have a hose connection you can take the intake hose off the bottom of the boat at the hull intake and stick into a 5 gallon bucket with a garden hose running if its at iddle it does not draw the bucket of water down that fast

If you are seriously going to own an inboard in the future, one of these is definitely handy.

i do not have a picture sorry. the intake hose connects to the bottom of the boat right behind the transmission on the left side of the boat.
and if you are going to go with an inboard i would go with ski4evr's suggestion above

Is the red circle to intake hose??? If so, it needs to be disconnected from the hull and inserted into a bucket of water???

For sure to flushing adapter, the Fake a Lake is a PITA and slips off occasionally, it also gets you wet in the process which sucks in the winter. I attach mine to the top of the transmission cooler and leave the 5gal bucket on the back step of the trailer. That seems to keep the boat the driest and puts the bucket about lake level to the boat as well.

Whichever method you use, remember the #1 rule is DO NOT REV THE ENGINE.

I have not heard to not REV the engine, why is this the case? If you have an adequate source of water, what is defferent from being in the lake?

You won't get an adequate source of water. Even if you fill a baby pool or something you still have the hose going from the pool to the boat that isn't as big as the intake hose on the boat. The boat would put such a suction on the hose it'd clamp shut. You'd really have to go to extremes to get a functional simulation and it'd be easier to just pull it to the lake.
