    • 2003 Air Nautique 216

    New/used AN216 owner

Just purchased a 2003 AN216 for multi-purpose use next year. My wife and I are in our late fifties and enjoy skiing. The kids are into wakeboarding and who knows what the grandbabies will do as they get older. I bought the Nautique based on reputation and the 216 seemed to be a reasonable compromise boat. I am wondering though.....
It doesn't seem to be a very popular choice on this forum. The 210 and 230 seem to be much more common, so I am wondering if I made a mistake jumping on this boat? Be interested in any insight from forum members. BTW.....these forums have been a tremendous source of information thus far, and I truly appreciate it!

I had several 210's and now own a 230. I also owned a nice and clean 216 couple of years back. I really miss that boat, it had the best driving characteristics and was good on fuel. Never had a problem with it. Liked the ski wake and enjoyed the wake with boarding. The downside for me was the space. I really like the v-drive config, plus the wake for boarding and surfing. Downside is fuel, skiwake and handling.
Enjoy the 216, it is a great boat!

The 1998-2003 was the best nautique ever. The Air and the Sport are the same boats. I miss mine. I had a 2000 Sport (same hull as your) and a 2007 216 (differnet hull, your is better) which I just sold a year ago. You will love it. We have one at the marine that I still love to ski behind if my 196 isn't in the water. I have a 196 and a 210, so best of all worlds, but still miss my 2000 Sport.

      I wouldn't question your purchase....AT ALL>>>>

Actually, 98' thru 02' is the Sport/Air (21'-0" Hull) and 03' and beyond is the 216 (21'-6" Hull)

SCCA, Big difference between the boats you mentioned is V-Drive (rear engine 210 & 230) vs Direct Drive (mid-engine 216). Typically a Direct Drive will provide a better slalom/skiing wake while a V will provide the better Wakeboard/Surf wake.
