i was wondering if someone could help me. I bought an '89 nautique 2001 last year and i wanted to refinish the swim deck on it, but i was wondering what kind of wood it was. i was thinking it was mahogany. Also what is the best way to refinish it.

RE: swim platform
I agree with 'skinautoque', make sure you give the underside alot of attention when cleaning and sanding, this spends more time out of natural light and tens to have heavy marking. When I did mine I washed it and lightly sanded it 3 times, finishing with a 4th wash just ot make sure and left it to totally dry out.
I applied 4 thin applications of teak oil and it looked 'as new' apart from the odd scrap. The time spent refurbing it will be worth the comments from other club members.
Teak over compsite anyday!!!!

RE: swim platform
I refinished ours on a 92 Excel before we sold it. If you have any "pitting" in the wood, find yourself an orbital sander and spend some hours...that'll be time well spent. After powerwashing and light sanding it looks pretty good. Give it a solid sanding down and the wood will really shine, not to mention be as soft as a baby's arse. You'll love it, I promise. Another thing, teak has to be maintained. Depending on your usage, you should re-oil every once in a while to prevent another "sanding party" in the future.
