    Tips for Selling my Boat

Where do people suggest I go to get good exposure? I have looked into many websites, but not sure which ones are good. I have been getting lots of calls from salesman looking for 200.....300....400 dollars to help sell the boat, but dont trust these guys. I have a add on craigslist, but thats just a lot of BS I have received back. I have looked into boat trader and in-boards only, but still havent paid for advertising yet.

I am located in Stockton, CA, right on the Delta. If anyone from around this area has a good local suggestion, please share.

    Thanks,
    John

I just checked centralKY site. He starts his brokering at 1k. Sorry, I bought a boat through him, didnt sell one. But if your looking to buy check his listings.

Try ski-it-again.com. I've had good success with Craigslist. Yes there is a lot of junk emails, but it works. The selling season is just starting to pick up, so be patient! Post it here at PN.

I sold my 196 last winter. Posted here, Only Inboards, CCF, and Craigslist. I got hits from each. The callers from PN, CCF, and OI were definitely the most knowledgable/serious. The Craigslist calls were pretty random/non-serious. I avoided boat trader figuring they'd also be pretty random and as I recall they were more expensive than all the other options.

Try going to the local marinas such as Orwoods, Holland track Discovery bay post picts and all the info that is a good start and it cost nothing. Also try ski-it-again.com and inboards only.com. I have had good luck with all of them.

With boat show season going on you may get a good lead.

              Good luck

Start off with this. Detail the boat, the whole thing. Make it look as best you can. Make it so clean you do not what to sell it.

Take good pictures of the boat. Show the interior. Show both sides, show the transom. Take pictures against a flat background, with a setting or rising sun. This gives the boat good lighting, and makes the colors stand out.

Get the boat out of the garage it is in. Take some in focus, large pictures of the boat. I should be able to read the instruments in the photos. I just looked at the three? pictures in the boat for sale section of this forum, of your boat. Honestly, the first picture with the cover on the boat is useless. You are trying to sell a boat, not it's cover.

This is blunt, but make a little effort in presenting your boat in the best possible way.

Here is the first random picture I found of my boat.

You can even see the gelcoat repair I am in the process of doing, in the purple. Notice how the daylight makes the color "pop".

If I was wanting to sell my boat, this picture would not be used. Obviously, the gelcoat repair would be finished. You would be able to read the decals on the stern of the boat.

I bought my 196 on this WEB site and sold my 99 Sport on this WEB site. I would post here, craigslist and boatrader. Onlyinboards, in my opinion is not a good site, many old listings, I gave up on that site. Also - before I post, I take the boat to the dealer have have a full "check" done on the boat, so all the maintenance is up to date, including the trailer bearings - these are expensive sales, the buyer should have total confidence that everything is perfect (from a dealer)
