    Just put a deposit down on a '08 210!

We just put a deposit down on a '08 210 and we're super stoked! We're buying the boat from a distance from a dealer who has the boat on consignment. The dealer is going to be checking all of the systems to make sure they are working properly and doing a lake test. If everything checks out, this baby is ours. This will be my first Nautique and a major upgrade over my '99 D/D Malibu Sunsetter (which will be up for sale after I fix a few minor things).

I've been lurking these forums for the past couple of weeks and found tons of great information. From what I've found, 2008 was a good year for the 210 without many issues. That being said, is there anything I need to look out for?

Also, any reccommendations on who to use for shipping would be greatly appreciated. Need someone reliable, fast, and preferrably cheap. Oh, and someone who won't jack up the boat.

i would ask the dealer if the impellars of the ballast pumps have been swapped out for the new yellow or green ones. If not, have them do it for you.

Congratulations! Only issue I've ever heard about '08s is some have weak welds on the damper plate that can cause a rattle (maybe someone more knowledgeable can pipe in).

Since you are in Austin, did you ever check out the '08 at Buxton's? It looks pretty in the pictures.

BTW, where is your new boat? Only if you're willing to say that is.

That one popped up while I was shopping and is a great looking boat. We were also looking at one Sail & Ski had in Austin (but that one had replaced the original engine with a chevy 350 due to a cracked block). The one we're in on right now isn't perfect cosmetically, but, has been regularly maintained. At the price we're paying, we can afford to take care any of the cosmetic issues. From everything we've seen, it looks like it a good detailing job will take care of 90% of the issues.

I'm willing to say where the boat is located....... just not quite yet.

Sure, I understand. There was recently a close call on CCFan where a member posted a request for someone to go look at a boat for them. Just so happened that a member was already looking at THAT boat THAT day and when he got home and saw the thread, he posted that he had bought the boat! Some other members misread the timing and people thought that he had bought the boat out from under the guy.

I wish you good luck with the purchase and congrats on a good price. PLEASE post pictures when you can!!

I have an 08 210 as well. It's been a really good boat. I've put around 400 hours on mine. As mentioned above, I was one of the ones that had a damper plate issue. It's basically the equivalent of the clutch going out in a vehicle. Other than that, I have had upholstery issues, but that is it. I don't know how you could troubleshoot the damper plate prior to buying a boat. You could either ask for a replacement, or factor in some amount (~$4-500?) for that. When it does out, you are dead in the water though. I had to swim mine back in to dock. Check the upholstery out really close and pay attention to all the places that have pin striping on the seams. Look at the observer seat where it transitions from horizontal to vertical, and the rear chase horizontal pieces at the seams where the foam is at two different heights. It's been a really good boat for me and I think you will be happy as well.

I have an '08 as well and only issues that I have had are the ballast impellars and the windshield hitting the upholstery. Since it is still under warranty, my dealer (Buxton) took care of these issues. Been a great boat!
