    Ocala / Lake Weir

    Hi there,

My daughter is going down to Ocala for some horse show and I'm wondering if it's worth towing my boat down from Canada to go wakeboarding around Ocala....Lake Weir ?
I know next to nothing about the area. If I don't tow my boat I guess I'll bring my son to one of those cable park around Orlando. Any info appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Marc

Marc, Lake Weir is a nice lake but a real treat is cruising the St. John's River and going to Silver Glen Springs. There's great skiing/boarding on the river too, you can always find clean water. Tons of lakes that the river flows through as well.

I live about 20 mins from Lake Weir. I haven't been there in over a year, but it is a very nice lake (clear water & sandy bottom). The water level may be low right now, as all of the lakes down here are. We put in at the boat ramp on the west side (Carney Island?).

Another place to go besides the St. Johns is the Harris Chain of Lakes.... that is where we spend most weekends. We usually put in on Lake Eustis and spend the day on the lakes. There are several places to eat lunch by boat on Lake Eustis, Lake Dora, and Lake Harris. Then we spend the rest of the day boarding. Let me know if you want more info....

I haven't had my boat out on this chain yet but I am in Eustis every Wednesday calling on a customer and I always admire how nice the lake looks from downtown Eustis. I have heard nothing but good things about the Harris chain.

Hahaha exact same thing for me, is it safe to wakeboard on lakes in FL?? I've always wondered the same thing even though I know Florida is a water sport mecca.
For example Lake Okeechobee in south Florida? Edit: doesn't look like a good idea on that lake.

Yes, alot of lakes here have gators. They dont bother you if you dont bother them. Theyre more active around dawn/dusk times. I have a harder time combatting stingrays when I ride out in the bay waters then gators in lakes. The busier the lake with more traffic the better for you.

They are more afraid of you, then you are of them. That being said, stay away from lake Jessup....
Seriously, you won't have a problem, but beware - you may want to move here once you spend time on the lakes.....
