    Trailer for a 206

I am looking at buying a Ramlin Trailer for a late model 206. Anything I need to know? Is there another manufacturer that builds a better trailer?

    Thanks,

Matty, in my opinion, nobody builds a better trailer than Ramlin. Ramlin is what Correct Craft uses for all their factpry boats and what Nautiques of Orlando uses. I've had a few of them and never had a problem.

Don't believe Correct Craft uses any specific manufacturer, trailers are up to the dealers and what is most commonly used will vary geographically.

Having owned 4 Ramlins and 2 Eagles, The Ramlins are fine trailers however if you compare side/side with a Boatmate or Eagle, IMO the Eagle and Boatmate are built much stronger. Additionally in our area you may find the Ramlin to be the most expensive.

One recommendation regardless of which manufacturer, stick with the crash pads. Dealer talked me into the bump stop on my 206 and I hated it. If the ramp has any angle to it The rub rail will get caught up coming off and will end up underneath going back on.

Click on the My Craft link below to see an Eagle Trailer for a 206. Dual axle is not really necessary w/206 however I can tell you it tows really well and stops excellent w/4 disc brakes. IIRC 2nd axle was only $400 - $500 additional, well worth it.

I second the 2nd axle. I also like Ramlin. It's all I've ever had on my boats. But I do not have much experience with other trailers. I was just at the Ramlin factory and was impressed how clean and organized there outfit is.

I personally would prefer a bunk type trailer over the ramlin but it is nice to be able to see over the boat and launch in shallower water/ramps.

ditto crash pad and Be sure to order disk brakes and the factory spare tire with matching wheel. There is an upgraded front jack also.

If you don't need the swing tongue, don't get it. It makes the tongue a bit sloppy IMO and the turnbuckle annoying to adjust sometimes.

196 and 206 "rock" forward and aft on ramlin trailers - do not cinch down the stern with tie downs or the boat will be in a bind. Use a gunnel strap if you want to tie it down.

I'd sell you my ramlin if I knew what I wanted to replace it with and/or had a place to hang my boat while it was being built.

dorsey is a great option but not sure if available in your area.

Your are looking at 4500 give or take for a new ramlin.

I'd look real hard at the Boatmate, they quoted me 3500 for a basic trailer with discs, single axle, and bow stop last year at the knox boat show. That's less freight and during a casual conversation. Check out their runway light option, its pretty neat.

We had a tandem Boatmate on our '07 196. Great trailer, you won't be disappointed. We've also owned two Eagles, two Ramlins, and a Phoenix now carries my bro's 200. I like them all.
