I'm sure if weighted right it could be done. I used to surf behind my old MC prostar 190.
Had a couple of peeps sat on the back of the boat on whichever corner we were surfing on. Ballast sac accross the back and a couple of the small square ballast bags at the sides of the boat. Again depending on which side we were surfing.
It was never the best wave but definitely surfable.

Funny, I was asked this very question at the boat show this weekend. I said that I wasn't sure my 200 would work and was told that you can surf a 196 with 500-600 lbs, it is not a long wave but "surfable." I my have to give it a try as I think my crew would get a kick out of it from time to time.
I have wake surfed behind a 200 and the wake was killer. We have 5 people in the boat and added fat sacks. Moved the fat sacks and ballast based on what side the rider was on...great wake! Make sure to have some weight in the bow...
Properly weighted, and with the proper surf board to fit, you can surf just about anything. I've surfed behind my families old 1973 ski nautique, just had some folks sit on one side of it and broke out the 8' fun board.
I am looking at getting some sacs and a board to give this a shot. I thought I would try two 400# sacs (on in the rear corner and one on the same side next to the engine) and thinking of an Inland Surfer Squirt. I am not looking for a great wave, just surfable so we can relax enjoy ourselves. I weigh 155 and the rest of my crew are lighter...any advise?

im surfing sport 200 on factory ballast very happily and i weigh 230 pounds, iused to surf my mc 197 with 600lb of sacks, the the amount of lean seems to be more important than the total weight, get passengers on the gunnells,
get a long board, ive got a 5"4 ronix which goes good smaller wake, i couldn't get a decent ride on my mates smaller sized inland surfer even behind his sacked out 230
Thanks for the info. There are no Squirts to be found (IS is estimating 4 weeks) so I am getting a 5-4 Broadcast and the sacs are on order. I should be able to give it a try next weekend. Thanks for the help.
