210 and 211 wake vs 03 Wakesetter VLX Wake

What is everyones opinion on the wake of a 210 and 211 stock comared to the wake of a 04 Wakesetter VLX stock with wedge. I have owned 5 Malibus and currently own a 03 Wakesetter VLX but am getting ready to demo a 210 and 211 when the weather changes and the lakes open up.

    Thanks

RE: 210 and 211 wake vs 03 Wakesetter VLX Wake

Well we demo'd almost all the boats and had just the 210 left to demo. We demo'd 2 05 VLX'S and 1 O4, after that we were 99% sure Malibu was going to earn our business. The wife had really no desire in the 210 as she loved the look of the 05 VLX, but I was able to finally get us in a 210 to demo and after 5 minutes we ordered our 210. The wake is wider on the VLX and the 210 is more vertical is my best description. We have only 10hrs on our 210 but we love it , and its scary to think that we almost bought another boat before the demo of the 210 .

RE: 210 and 211 wake vs 03 Wakesetter VLX Wake

From what I understand about the wakes of each boat, the 210 has the most vertical wake with a lip and alot of pop, tends to be abrupt. The 211 will be similar with a bit more ramp to the wake and less lip. VLX will have a definate rampy wake.

I don't know anyone who is concerned with wake that rides anything stock, most people will add 1000+ to their stock system. You can also do alot of fine tuning to a wake by moving weight forward and backward in your boat. Back for abrupt, forward for ramp. 210's should be weighted pretty evenly forward to back whne adding to the stock ballast.

Definately test drive as many as possible, you will hear people argue all of this either way on what is better and what is best. Personal preference on the wake shape you like is key. I like abrupt due to my being 225 lbs, I need boost. Smaller guys can get more air without problem might want a rampier wake, but again it's all what you like. I've ridden rampier wakes and it's all fun, really.

RE: 210 and 211 wake vs 03 Wakesetter VLX Wake

I had a similar issue to Hundo. I demoed 3 VLXs, 1Wakesetter, and 3 Xstars (’02 model year). I hadn’t even demoed a SAN and was in town about to pull the trigger on a fully loaded ’03 VLX and decided I would demo a SAN just for the heck of it.

I never road behind a VLX with a wedge so take this for what it’s worth; but I did ride in all of the boats stock and also sacked out. In comparing stock wakes, the VLX and SAN are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Not in quality, both are awesome wakes, just in the way they feel.

The VLX has a really smooth, rampy, transition. Almost seems like a really gradual snowboard kicker. It was very comfortable and feels slightly more “relaxed.” The trough isn’t as abrupt right before impact.

The SAN is definitely more “abrupt.” When you hit the wake you drop into a trough and then are booted straight up at the lip of the wake. It’s sort of like you hit the wake and then someone kicks your tail straight up in the air. It’s a really strange feeling at first until you hit it a few times.

Ultimately both of these wakes are awesome and really nice when sacked out. I personally don’t think the wake is that big of a deal as you’ll get used to whatever you ride behind the most. It’s the other little things that make or break the boat. My biggest complaint about the SAN was lack of storage, especially when you have a ton of sacks in the boat. The same weight configuration could easily be completely hidden in the VLX. No boat is without it’s faults. Just depends which faults mean the most to you. Demo before you buy.

One test drive of the SAN and it sold itself.

I was asking for the actually stock comparison fist they I figured I would ask for everyone opinion on a weighted boat, I have owned five Malibu's since 1996 and am looking a purchasing a new boat for the 06 season and I want to look at all of my options.

            wakes

I have ridden behind a stock team edition, no extra ballast, just oem, and a stock VLX with no extra weight. The san's wake is much more defined than the bu's. The bu's felt like it was way too soft, etc. The stock san's wake would satisfy 98% of the wakeboarding community.

IE: I would ride behind Glenn Fletchers bu's at O'town, and his boats were loaded down with around 3000pds? of ballast, that wake was comparable to my san wake. You might want to call him and ask him about the two boats, he switched over to the super air's this past summer, so he can give you his perspective on the wake, boats in general. etc.
