2007 SAN - Advice - Yes or No

    Hello,

I am looking at an MB Sports 2009 (23ft) vs 2007 SAN (team 220).   The MB comes with 2400 lbs of ballast.  The SAN is stock at 900.     I will mostly be surfing, but the kids will wakeboard, but they don't need the ballast so much.

My question to you on the Natique forum.

Would you buy Nautique again?   Do you feel you get ample room on board for people?  We have a big family and take others out with us.

How much extra ballast will I need to turn this thing into a Wakesurf boat, and how much effort?   Can you get a good wakesurf with stock?

All comments are welcome.   I am making a decision this week.   Anything you like specifically about the Nautique's I may not know is cool too.

    Thanks

The answer to the question, "would you buy Nautique again?" is yes, in January I purchased my second Nautique.

We are a family of 4 and we spend a lot of time with friends with boats or that live on the lake so we have plenty of space for our needs, but I must say the design, layout and space is exceptionally nice, even with another couple kids or family aboard.

As far as additional ballast, consider this: if you could achieve a better surf wave or WB wake with less ballast, wouldn't you prefer having to burn less fuel? In other words, you really can't judge the performance based solely on the ballast capacity. You should make time to test ride both.

We, too, are in the process of buying our second Nautique so obviously I highly recommend them. Build quality and customer service are exceptional. We just sold our 210 and to be honest, I was never able to dial in a prefect surf wake although I didn't start trying until late in the season last year. Size was good with 300 lbs in the surf side locker but I just couldn't quite get it right. From what I've been reading, some more weight on the bow floor may have done it for me.

As far as room, I had no complaints with the 210. Although its not the biggest boat out there--even in Correct Craft's current lineup--we routinely carried 5 adults and three kids comfortably and with plenty of room to spare. Lots of storage, too, even when adding some extra balast.

Hope that helps a little with your decision and good luck.

Buy a Naut again, YES... but a 2007 SAN 210, NO. The hull for the 210 was changed in 2007, and it was the only year that hull lived, as it was changed in 2008 (and is still being used in the 2012 boats)

^^ wrong: the hull of the 07 is the same exact hull as the 08-12's. Only thing they changed was the top deck to chage the rear bench seating configuration.

Totally FALSE! 07-12 is the same hull on the 210!

The OP is looking at a 220, which is a great boat I plan on making it my next boat in fact. I've surfed behind them and they are great, 750lb fat sac in rear compartment a couple passengers on surf side and another in the bow surf side and the wave is huge , hard to beat! Keep in mind resale value on the mb is nowhere near that of the nautique in the future. Nautique build quality is second to none. Easy decision get the nautique!

Excellent point. I did notice Riptide said he is looking at a two model year difference in the 2009 MB and the 2007 220. He didn't say the ask prices, but my guess is the two are on his radar screen becasue they are about the same for sale price, which would prove up the resale value point on the Nautique. Anybody know more about MB vs. Nautique? Is MB = Mike Brendel who designed and manufactures the Ski Brendella (?) line of boats?

Yes it's mike brendel from ski brendella, apparently he was partners with another guy on ski brendella and it went sour and they parted ways! He went on with MB and his partner Calabria or so i believe.

Mb are actually a well built boat , however there esthetics looks are sure to displease alot of people! Not too many fans of the flame gelcoats or upholstery, the dashboards have always seemed to lack visual pleasure, and there pickle fork is **** right fugly! On the positive side they use PCM engines and there wakes are pretty **** good. Definately a better surf boat than they are a wakeboard boat though, in my neck of the woods they are a real tough sell not many people interested in them.

Regarding question above yes they are in same price range - low 40's
The pros of MB are the surf wake stock is fantastic and more room in cabin
Seems like with nautique i am going to get additional ballas added
SAN is nice looking boat, high quality. I will be happy with either, but still wanted to hear Some opinions

                      Thanks

Who told you the surf wake was fantastic on the stock ballast in the mb? There version of "fantastic" is far from my version!!! No boat produces a " fantastic" surf on stock ballast not even an Enzo! They all need added ballast, pretty sure the allowable on board weight restrictions from the factory limit this hence the reason alot of dealers selling boats with the extra plug and play ballast the. The owner has to add the bags.

And as far as resale is concerned, keep in mind that everybody knows Nautique, but most will scratch their head at who MB is. Unless you're one of those that can sell anything, you'll get a lot more traffic with Nautique. Also, when someone asks what you have and you say Nautique, they'll say "cool"! When you say MB, they'll ask "who's that"? I ran into that with the Gekko...

And don't forget about access to the best support Forum in the world (PlanetNautique) and best dealer/service/parts network (www.nautiqueparts.com). Look around and you'll see this is a first class site.

Buy again? Absolutely once you own a Nauti its hard to find another brand that is on their level. There have been a lot of posts on WakeWorld about MB . They seem like a good boat but no way are they a Nautique. There are some things about MB I find questionable.
1-They are not NMMA certified all other major brands are.
2-I was told they dont have any foam flotation in the hull [ Probably why they are not certified]
3-The ballast system fills the hull with water [where the foam would be] you cant fill front, back or side only.
4- Dealer network is poor east of the Mississippi. The closest dealer to me is 220 miles away they are a west coast boat .
5- CC has been here since the 20s MB is a newcomer if they fold what do you have?
6-40k plus for a 09 the guys on Wake World claim you can buy a new 2012 in the fifties
