putting a tower on a 1981 Ski Nautique

First time poster here. Sorry if this may already be a thread somewhere. I searched and couldn't find it. Will it lower the re-sale value of my 1981 Ski Nautique if I put a customer tower on it? I'm not sure if i have the special edition or not. How can I tell?

I'm looking at Big Air Wake Towers and Biminis based on their affordability. Any horror stories about these towers?

A true anniversary edition SN will have a silver windshield frame, white dash, deluxe interior among other things. Believe the VIN also has a specific designation.
If it is an Anniversary edition it would be a shame to put a tower on it and could hurt resale. On the other hand if the buyer only wants a Wakeboard boat and is not a purist it could add value.
Check out New Dimensions web site, believe their gallery includes an 81 SN.

You may want to look around over at www.correctcraftfan.com also, quite a big "Old School" following over there.

Yea it definitely has the chrome windshield frame, although the chrome does nto shine like that anymore. The interior is completely redone but am told it is done to OEM specificaiont (besides color). She said it was originally the white with brown stripe but now is white with a blue stripe. And the passenger seat is not a bench, it is a swivel chair that matches that drivers seat. I was told this is the original seat as well.

If you'll get the most enjoyment out of this boat by installing a tower, by all means go for it. If your intentions are to sell it in the short term, you may want to rethink it? Like Chris said, it all depends on the buyer. I would imagine older/classic CC's, like yours, would most appeal to old school purists who would not want a tower?

Your Boat Your Call, if it was mine I would get an extended pylon and not molest a rare model like a true anniversary edition.

Post some pics, curious to see how it looks.

I'm currently re-doing the front of the deck. The wood is cracked/rotted under the passenger seat so it flops around everywhere. Everything else is fine. Stringers seem to be fine as well. I am going to also do some patch work on the fiberglass in the engine compartment. It has a few random chips here and there. The outside hull is dull and the paint/stickers have been removed. That is next summer's project. I'll post pictures after the deck is done.

I'm with CQuin on this one. My other concern would be the integrety of the deck, and adding a tower. I know it's done a lot, but I'd be leary of adding a tower to something definitely not designed for one. I've only been in 2 80's boats with added towers, and it sure turned the boat into a squeak trap. Plus it really affected the handling in a negative way.

I've got the '81 anniversary boat in Quinner's first link.

I've gotten a lot of crap from a lot of people at CCFan for putting a tower on the boat. But I'd do it again in a heart beat. This boat served on the US ski circuit when it was new and has been in my family since retiring from the circuit in the mid 80s and I have no intention of ever selling it so while it may lose some "collector" value (which frankly I don't care about because I'm not selling), it has WAY more practical value now. It's already a small boat, and getting all the skis and boards off the floor is invaluable. Secondly, the boat throws a good wake and a tower makes it better for boarding!

Bottom line, do what you want.
