    216 or 210???

Hey, my dad is interested in getting a new Nautique...however, we are not sure which one to get. Our family and friends hydrofoil most of the time, but still have a bit of classic slalom skiing in. What we really want to know is how much of a bigger wake the 210 is. (including ballast) Is it really worth getting a v-drive for that extra wake? If so, I would only be able to slalom behind my uncle's old Ski Nautique, which isn't bad, but it would be nice to be able to hydrofoil and slalom behind the same boat. Your info and oppinion would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

go with the 216 and stock ballast. The 210 puts out a very vertical wake. You can ski behind the 210 but it just isn't optimal. The wakes are pretty steep and a little bit harder at skiing speeds. Best thing to do is test drive both of them.

I think the best thing to do is to drive & ski both boats!!
Dealers have Demo days, I would never buy a boat without
driving or sking first I speak from experince!! 216 is a more
universal family boat. The 210 hardcore wakeboard boat, I
am a hardcore slalom skier I would not ski behind a 210
period. Just like a hardcore wake boarder would not board beyond
a ski!! Remember you can always add weight to a 216 for more wake,
but the wake of the 210 is there to stay!!

You can ski behind the 210 without ballast. There is a bigger bump there to cross. I have a Super Sport which is basically the same and I've skied behind it. I've only skied behind it once, and for my recreational skiing it was fine. I've had other people ski behind it fine. If you are a total skier that likes to one hand cut and fly across the wake at 50mph, then it isn't a wake you would want. I like the v-drive because it is nice for family and friends to be sitting all together without that **** engine in my way like in a direct drive. I actually have a picture of a 210's wake at 30-32 mph if you would like to see it. I took it when I went for a test drive. Email me and let me know.

I like what someone said about the idea of testdriving both...but we've already done that. however. the only person who did anything behind the boat was my uncle who was a hardcore slalom skier. he obviously liked the 216 more...on the other hand, i hydrofoil most of the time so is the bigger wake of the 210 really worth sacrafising the slalom wake?
Right now, we are leaning towards the 216...we just dont wanna "grow out" of the wake if we get inverted and the wake be too small for us. Thanks again...this really helps...

Never buy a boat without a test drive, glad you already did that. I don't know why you think you need a wakeboard boats huge wake to foil with. Most of the really good foilers I have seen don't even need the wake.

I agree totally with skiinxs. That is why we are leaning towards the 216. Thanks again.

I'd go with the 216. You can always add more weight for foiling, but can't go the opposite direction like MarkP said. Do you seriously need the BEST wake out there for your needs? I'm sure you can get the wake on a 216 past your ability level anyways.

Well I have an 01 Air Nautique, which is basically the same boat as the 216. The reason we went with the Air was because my dad skis sometimes and I wakeboard. We have around 1100lbs of ballast in it right now and it throws an awesome wake, nice and big! My dad took all the weight out a couple of days ago and went skiing and he said the ski wake was real nice. You can't go wrong with either boat though, good luck!

Just for clarification, the 216 is different from the air and sport nautiques (before they started putting the number on the side of the boat). The 216 has the tsc2 hull with the newer interior layout. the sport and air have the tsc hull under them with a different interior layout. any sport with the sloped back had the 90-96 ski hull under it and the next generation without a sloped back was a tsc hull.

Thanks for the info skinautique. I have asked some people before if the Air and the 216 are the same boat and they pretty much said they were. I kinda figured they were and they just renamed it the 216, but anyway thanks for clearing that up!

This is very strange but i guess it makes sense, pretty much everybody at wakeboarder.com says i should go with the 210...i guess they aren't really into slaloming...makes sense...

                          **** this is a hard decision.... :? :? :?

If you like to ski I would go with the 216. Even with no weight the 210 has a pretty big bump at slalom speeds. I’ve pulled 2 slalom skiers behind my boat and they didn’t like the wake very much at all. You can’t really make a strong cut across the wake because it really launches the skier.

I wouldn’t worry about the foiling aspect, I’ve seen someone at our local lake land flips on a foil with an I/O and a pylon.

From your previous post, it sounds like you can’t do inverts yet. You should be able to learn inverts behind pretty much any boat out there; it is just much more difficult with an I/O and no tower. Pretty much any of the comp level boats have more than a good enough wake to learn inverts on.

Of course the guys on Wakeboarder and WakeWorld are going to say go with the 210. Look at the name of the site. I agree with them, the 210 is a great boat for wakeboarding and is hands down my favorite wakeboard wake.

I agree luke, but its not now thats the think i'm worried about...i just wonder if when i start doing inverts and flips and all that good stuff will the wake then feel small??? I think that 216 with ballast and tower will be adequate then also...
