    New Python 210 Owner

    Hi Guys,

My name is Shawn and I am the new and 3rd owner of a 99 Python powered Super Sport. The drive train and handling are prefect but I am in the process of getting most of the main lounge seat bottoms and sun pad recovered and I need to spend some quality time with the buffer to brighten the gel coat back up so there will be many more pics once I get that all sorted. Overall the boat is in great shape and I can’t wipe the smile off my face every time I hit the throttle and that beast comes to life, or I take off from that perfect wake!

I know there aren’t too many Python 210s out there so I was hoping you guys could answer a few questions for me. First is there enough room for 750# sacs on either side of the motor? I know with the small blocks there is room but wanted to make sure I have room for them before I placed my order. Will I need to beef up the existing 2 piece dividers or fabricate my own so that full sacs aren’t pushing the dividers towards the engine? I haven’t installed my dividers yet because I am doing a full tune up this weekend and knew I would just be taking them back out so I am not sure how sturdy they are. Is it the Fly High rear seat sac that almost fills up that huge in-floor locker? I am not sure I would ever need to fill both 750s to board but want the ability to slam the corner for surfing. But if both 750s are full will that in floor locker be enough forward weight or am I going to want more up in the nose? Does the under bow sac (I have the walk through bow with filler cushion) fill up enough to make it worth it or I am better off with a little lead and my anchor in the nose? I plan to fill up manually this season and then plumb the bags in with some Jabscos this winter when I have time to do it right.

I was also wondering what prop you Python guys are running? It currently has a 3 blade on it and it surprisingly performs pretty well even when we were boarding with a 500# sac in the bow, another one on the floor in the rear of the lounge and 5 passengers on board. I know the boat should be running a 4 blade but with the above set up it came up on my plane quickly and held 23-24 without issue at about 2500 RPM IIRC. I mainly wakeboard but will do some surfing. My usual lake isn’t very big but a few times a summer I venture to bigger lakes so the ability to cruise close to 30 MPH at a reasonable RPM would be nice but if I had to swap to my old prop for the big lake vacations that wouldn’t be too big of a hassle for me. I am not too concerned about losing a few MPHs off the top end but would hope I could still hit 40 for the occasional long line barefoot run. I haven’t GPS’d my speedos yet but they feel accurate. Since I hit 46 MPH with ease in a decent wind chop I don’t think I have to worry too much about losing that barefoot speed but if I do it’s far from a deal breaker. From reading a few other threads I am thinking the ACME 1236 or 1464 is probably what I want but curious what other python owners are running? Thanks for any help you guys can provide! Here is a pic of it on the ramp with the previous owner (hopefully it uploaded correctly) but I promise to post plenty more once she is cleaned up.

Shawn, congrats and welcome! You're going to love that Python! Did you pick that up in SC? I was hoping someone was going to save that boat! I had a DD Pro Air Python that I just sold, and we were running an Acme 380 (13.7" x 17.5") and it was great for wakeboarding and cruising no problem. I would call Acme and tell them what you're planning on doing, and let them know which engine, and they will point you in the right direction.
For your SS/SAN locker, you may want to get a custom sack done, I had one made for my locker, and IIRC, it was 78" x 19" x 11" and held ALOT of weight! Your locker is a little shorter, but I think it's wider and deeper.
My new boat has an Acme 1235 with a ZR6 engine, and it pulls really well, I doubt with that Python you would need that big a prop. Measure your current prop, and check how close it is to the hull so you can provide that info to Acme when you speak with them. Some of the newer props (like the 1235) are >14" in diameter, and that may be a problem with your hull.
I'm pretty sure that Vdrive Python should top 50!

Welcome to the big python club. There is no replacement for displacement! I am running a 1272 as well as another guy on here. We love it and highly recommend it. I was skeptical due to clearance issues, but it runs like a bat out of ****! I run 2800lbs of ballast when full and it doesn't even know it. Post up some better pictures!

Ya sorry that pic is terrible, I will get some better ones up this weekend once I get it buffed out and waxed. That was the only one I had on my phone but I may have a couple of it in the water when we were down in SC. Either way there will be some better ones of her posted soon.

Since you are reccomedning the 1272 I am guessing you guys have not had any problems with burns or blistering of the nearby fiberglass with the tight clearance? Hows the RPM/fuel consumption when cruising around 30 MPH? On big lakes I would like to get decent fuel economy when crusing around but I'll want it to be a wakeboaring machine most of the time What is your top end on the 1272? Can you tell me a little bit more about how your ballast is distributed? If it's been documented on here before I will do some site searches.

No worries on searching, I have not posted it anywhere. I have the Fly High bow sac under the front seat, the rear seat sac in the ski locker, and I have two 400 pound bags on top of the factory tanks in the rear. I very rarely fill the 400 all the way up. The big block is so heavy I dont really need to.

As for the prop, no gel burn so far and I have run it a full summer with it. I can cruis 30mph with n issues at all. I run close to a 1 to 1 ratio on speed to rpm. I am really close to 3000 rpm at 30mph. My top speed is 48 ish on my perfect pass. I only surf and wakeboard so high speed was never a concern. It pulls like a mack truck though. Way more responsive than the factory prop ever was across the whole range of speed. The kicker is I actually use less fuel with the 502 in this boat than I did in a gt40 boat with the exact same amount of ballast and the same exact hull.

You will love the boat with this prop.

Come one Scott, you would look good in that blue Python. Just think, it will save you gas. Of course you might not need to carry all that ballast with a foil to get air, but it would be closer to it 3rd owner who is hopefully me.

I wonder how that 1272 would work with a GT40 powered boat? I have heard that the newer boats are going with larger diameter props for wakeboarding. If that would fit a 2000 SAN hull without burning the gel-coat, I might want to go for it. I am still running the orig. OJ 14" dia X 18p prop and it just has problems pulling 2500# out of the hole. If I have any extra people, I have to more 'em up over the bow.

Unfortunately, I still need 34 mph at no more than 4000 rpm to pull the occasional daring water skier, so I can't just get a 1464. I am also considering a 1248, but I will be loosing 1/2" of propeller diameter.

                  I wish acme made a 14" dia 16 pitch RH 0.105 cup 1 1/8" prop!

will a change in the prop pitch (going from stock to 1464) have any effect on the wake output while surfing?

I still haven't messed with the prop on my boat yet but resurrecting this post reminded me that I should put a better picture of my boat on this thread now that it's cleaned up.
