Those of you with a Coversports Cover can you please tell me how to put it on??

Received the cover a few months ago from Brent over at Coversports and finally had a chance to pull it out of its box and put it on. The quality looks very good - however, really confused about how to put it on.

Tried calling him, but no answer. I did receive this e-mail from him when he sent the cover out, but it doesn't make much sense to me. Maybe some of you can translate it for me?

"Hi Jonathan cover sports here your cover was sent really rushed to get it out but it looks like it wont get there in time I believe you said by the 6th fed ex drivers were supposedly off today now it wont get there until the 10th. And we didn't have enough time to get the swim deck cover out, will send it in the next couple of days. You will also have to cut the rope for the tower cut outs find that one is cut melted and tied just pull back tight on the rope and make sure it is in the center of the horizontal zipper the cut the front one, make sure it is centered every time pull and center, rope frays so melt ends each time. At the back you will find an option for attaching the back five pull straps, they can go to the buttons that can be installed by removing rub rail screws [ see example on one back strap] or feed through grab handles tow rings etc the preferred way if applicable, Any questions give a call. The cover is tight at first and will take some effort to get it on but it will conform after a while."


The problem I'm having is, after putting it on, the rope that goes from the bow back towards the stern is on the inside of the tower. It needs to be on the outside so that I can zip down the cover around the tower. I don't want to pull the rope out because feeding it through the cover seems very difficult. I've posted some pictures to show you guys the issue I'm having. Describing it is difficult, unless I showed you in person - but the pictures will suffice. Thanks in advance!!

You need to cut the rope at the center of each cut-out. That's what he was trying to convey in the email but obviously did a poor job. After it is cut, tie each end to some clasps so the rope doesn't get pulled into the channel and then you can just clasp them together after you zipper it up. I'll try and post a picture of how mine is, hopefully it will help you understand.

Look under the rub-rail below my tower mounting points. Those vertical lines are the zippers, and the brass clasps are on the ends of the ropes, only mine mount to rings that are sewn in on the opposite sides. Same idea though, you can do this yourself real simple.

My cover from Brent is being delivered first of the week for our new 230...am I going to have to go through this madness of cutting ropes and clasping together etc etc etc as well ? I am not good at doing that kind of stuff at all...what kind of clasps does one use to hold the ropes together -- any pics ? do they then rub the boat ?

He installs buckles on one side and you will have to do the other. Take look at how he does the one side and duplicate it on the other. Very simple process, just dont cut the rope too short towards the bow.

As a follow up - you should install the tabs in the rub rail above the swin platform and connect the straps at the rear of cover first so you can pull the cover down tight. Then tighten the rope at the rear of cover before cutting the rope on the side he does not cut. You will likely get the buckle nice and centered if you do these steps first. All the parts i needed were included with the cover.

Can you go into detail about how to install the tabs in the rub rail? I see plastic tabs - what do I do with them?

Would be almost impossible to know exactly where to cut rope and install second buckle without the cover on the boat I suppose

Unless Bowhunters PM covered this, I believe this is like the Rankin cover design, so the tabs go on the rub rail screws and become anchor points for the straps over the transom. This is a similar set up to my old Rankin cover. Rankin sent longer screws to replace the rub rail screws above the swim platform...on eachof the screws you place one plastic tab, then insert the screws in place of the original. The tabs become the anchor point for the triangle rings on the aft cover straps. Sorry, I don't have any photos.

That is a good description. My cover from coversports also has the triangular rings on it.

Anyone have any concerns about how tightly you have to pull the 5 straps at the rear of the boats to get the cover tight enough not to pool water ? By this I mean -- ever concern you about pulling that hard on the grab rails or the nipple things in the rub rail screws ?

Just seems like applying this much pressure shouldnt be good or am I just being overly concerned due to a new boat??

Also same question about how hard Cover Sports tells you to tighten the rope under the rub rail --- I was told "pull it as hard and as tight as you can - put all your weight into it- just dont fall in the water" --- any concerns about it being this taught around the boat ??
