    Servo Motor Issues

Last year I went thru at least 4 or 5 servo motors for my perfect pass. I installed a new throttle cable (atual throttle cable), installed a new throttle/tension cable from engine to servo, and yes..5 different servos. It's a PP system for a 2000 SAN and at this point the only orginal parts would be the electronics. I searched all over planetnautique for similar issues but it seemed it was always the servo...and once it was replaced the owner said it worked fine. My will work fine for a couple different days of using the boat but then I'll come out one day and it won't engage. Do I need to upgrade to the PP Star Gazer?

If anyone has had this issue or has any thoughts, PLEASE help me out. I'm out of ideas...

stargazer is great, but it won't fix a bum servo.

I'm wondering if the original computer system is some how shorting out my servo..servos. Is that possible? Thats why I thought upgrading to the Star Gazer might be needed.

If you're burning up servos like that, it has to be something electrical. I would start with your wiring to the servo, check for any shorts. When they go out, are they completely seized or are they just not working? I replaced a seized servo 3 years ago and have had no problems since.

          Go Big,

Yes, the servo seizes up each time. Any thoughts?

I just finished "rebuilding" a servo motor. If the knob faces up and you wash down your motor you will have issues for sure as there is no shaft seal below the knob. The stepped rotor fits within close tolerance of the stepped stator, any oxidation/corrosion fills that gap and siezes it up. Make sure the back of the motor has the shaft seal in place and remount it in a position where the knob faces down. I would bet your troubles go away.

By chance do you run your boat in salt?

If you have any of those siezed up servo motors I will pay you for them.

No salt water use. The knob of the motor faces up, I might have adjust the mounting bracket so the knob faces downward.
