    Save my marriage!

My wife INSISTS our black lab be on the boat with us. I am in search of a small vacuum that I can plug into the power supply and store in the boat. Ive tried a few and returned them all. I need something with tornado type power to get all the %$#@^&*! dog hair out of the boat. Any super charged vacs you know of? Thanks for the help.

wow that dyson is pricey! Not sure shaving is an option either. The short hair on the lab.....id have to shave her bald. which..........sounds pretty good.

Not a big fan of dogs on the boat and hate dog hair in the carpet. But, as one who went through a divorce several years ago, I can say that it would be cheaper to buy a new boat every year. So, my advice - get over it. BKH

Bissell has some "pet hair eraser" vacuums but they all appear to require a 120vac power outlet. There is a rechargeable unit but it also requires 120vac to recharge. Looks like they are $30-40 on Amazon.

Don't remember the brand, but I bought a new 12 volt vac from Overton's for about 40 bucks. Has the spinner brush. Works great, but we don't have dog hair. Just sand.

Constantly cleaning up dog hair sucks (especially from boat carpet), but the alternative is worse (not having the dog along)... so I deal with it. Tique loves the boat.

Ive never found a 12v vacuum that can clean carpet at all, let alone pick up dog hair. Even most of the smaller 120vac vacuums are lousy. I picked up the smallest shop vac I could find with a decent size motor and use that now. You still need to work hard to get all the hair out, but it is what it is.

What boat are you in? You might be better off thinking about a new flooring option than carpet.

Other option, clean the vinyl clean your gel coat to your content.... and get the boat detailed every 2-3 months.

^ Good idea. You can put those foam-type puzzle pads on your floor over the carpet. Someone on here did that on their older SAN. Looked good. I'm thinking about doing it myself. Then just pull them out and rinse them off with a hose. Alternatively, the vaccum should suck up dog hair pretty easily off those.

You could make a giant lint roller with a rolling pin and duct tape to pull up the dog hair. Another option would be to put a few old towels down on the carpet. That may reduce, but not prevent, the dog hair from getting everywhere. Lastly, a good bath and brushing (for the dog) to reduce the winter coat would not hurt. We can fill a plastic grocery bag with the hair that comes off of our golden retriever.

Agreed. I give her a good rub down and brushing on shore before I put her in the boat. Its pretty much a losing battle. Thanks for all the input guys. And my marriage is not a risk here BKH, that was a bit of an exageration. Im a bit anal about the boat as Im sure all of you are. One black hair on white gel or vinyl is like fingernails on a chalk board to me. But, I love my wife and she loves the dog on the boat so I will deal the best I can.

What kind of food do you feed your dog? Food quality has a HUGE factor in how much a dog sheds. Also when dogs get nervous they shed. Sorry I can talk dog talk for hours, bestfriends wife is a vet and very good at it, so much so she has a morning radio show. She's the one that got my Boxer started in modeling for Outward Hound and a few others

sweet. her food verys, but she loooooooves the boat, and the water. She gets very excited when she recognizes we are on the route to the dock. So much so that she jumped out of the truck window Saturday about a block from our dock. She rolled across the road as I slammed on the brakes ( i was going about 20mph), shook it off and jumped back in! Scary, but didnt phase her at all, she ran right off the dock swam around like a champ.
