Help. I am trying to find out how to remove the horn in a 2000 ski nautique closed bow. I have not removed the windsheild yet; the vent slot under the starboard windsheild does not seem big enough to unfasten and remove the horn. The only other opening in the bow area is the ribbed sleeve for the air flow to the engine. Customer service at correct craft said I did not have to remove the wind sheild. Also does this model have a single or dual horn setup. Where is the grounding wire from the horn go exactly. Thanks!!

You access the horn(s) by removing the flex tube between the deck and the hull. The horns themselves are probably not the problem. Do they try to honk, but just make some sort of a dull click sound, and the voltage at the dash drops a bit?
There are a few weaknesses in the original horn wiring
There is no horn relay.
The wiring supplying the dashboard is barely adequate, at best.
If you have a horn switch like my 1997 Ski Nautique, water can get inside the switch, and deteriorate the contacts on the switch.
I assume you are asking about the horn location because they are not working. A horn needs a high current surge to start the honk, and after it is making noise, the current needed drops off.
This is how I fixed the horn on My Ski Nautique. I got a Bosch type cube relay, with a mounting tab, and screwed it to a bulkhead, up under the dash, close to where the wires for the horn come through. I then cut the wires going to the horn, both of them, leaving enough to reach the relay. The two wires, coming from the dash go to pin 85, and 86 on the relay. I think the wires were orange, and black. Orange, pin 85, Black pin 86. after you do this, the relay you added should click when you push the horn button.
The black wire that goes to the horn, gets another long wire attached to it, and it gets fished through the hole in the hull, where all the cables go, and back to the engine compartment, and attached to the engine block, close to the raw water pump, where some other wires are grounded. Do not use the ground on the back of the block where fuel injection and computer wiring is grounded.
The orange wire going to the horn goes to pin 87 of the relay you added.
You then need to get a fused power wire from the positive battery terminal up to pin 30 of the relay.
If you really need them, I could post some pictures later.Last edited by DanielC; 05-22-2012, 11:57 AM.

You need to figure out if the horns are bad, or if the problem is in the wiring going to the horns. Normally, you would just hook a battery up to the horns directly, to test them but it is kind of a PITA to get to the horns.
Try this. Get to the back of horn switch on the dash. Just try to short the two connections on the horn switch together. Does that make the horn sound?

Ok. The photos above are under the dash on the drivers side. I removed the kick panel and was able to access the vent where the horns are located. I own a 97 snob. I was able to take a 3/8 deep well socket and hold the nut on the horn inside the vent. I then unscrewed the screw near the horn wires. I then removed the nut. There is a washer under the nut that fell inside the vent when I removed the horn from the screw. I left the screw in place. I was able to feel around for the washer after removing the horn. The horn had 4 push on connectors. The horns were FIAMM AM80. There is a universal kit out there but it takes some searching. You need the kit with the push on tab connector which comes in the universal kit. The part number I found was 7202622
