Necessities/ not so much for the 2012 230

    Hello everyone!

Been a long time lurker, but haven't posted. We've got a 2005 210, and soon to have a 2012 230!! Stoked to say the least.

I need everyones opinion (seeing that i have never owned a 230, let alone a newer Nautique) on what are the NECESSITIES (such as add ons that aren't standard) and what are "add ons" that are not so necessary.... This could be for people who don't have a 230, but know a lot about them or have a 230 and have some advice for me!!

Thank you very much in advance!!

Chill210 -- we just took delivery on our 2012 team 230 a few days ago - I labored for quite a long time on the build specs, colors, options etc. Below is what I did and feel very pleased with what I ordered and don't miss anything that I didn't add on.

    Team edition with ZR409
    stainless windshield upgrade
tower speaker prep kit - 1 pr rotating - 1 pr fixed
    Z5 cargo rack
    deluxe mirror
    Docking lights
    underwater lights
    Heater
    pop-up ski/lift ring combo
    Walk thru air dam
    table
    waste receptacle
    Transom remote

The ones I was unsure about at order time were the waste receptacle and the transom stereo remote - now having them, I wouldn't do without either

Hope this helps you and best of luck...Also - do a nice trailer package if you tow your boat some, it just completes the look

Here's my two cents. Opt out of the factory sound system and go to after market. I'm saving to upgrade to wetsounds and will probably get very little for the factory stuff. We love the Z5 top, it holds a lot of gear and provides great cover (necessary in TX). If you pick wetsounds depending upon the size you may lose wakeboard storage on it. With two 750's in the back, the factory tanks full and 8 in the boat it would be nice to have more hp (we have the 343).

        2010 SANTE 230
2013 G23 450 with NSS (175hrs) and still have the original prop
        2010 SANTE 230 343 (280hrs)
pre 2010 - various open bow boats and jet skis

Ive got a couple quick questions....

Is the 2011 dash with the RPM and MPH needle gauges on either side of the screen still an option for 2012 or is the only option the large sing LINC screen?

Also, is there anyone that has seen/ has a picture of the brownish type of carpet option?

                Hey chill,

One snip it about the transom remote. We have an 08 210 and the transom remote was not considered an option for our model year. I bought one aftermarket (same clarion unit and wiring as nautique uses) and put it in myself. Turns out the cost was less then half what CC would have charged if it had been available. Many cringe at the idea of drilling the hole in the boat, but it was pretty easy. Especially on a brand new boat cuz the gel coat and fiberglass are still considered soft and less prone to cracking. It's been on the boat for 4 seasons now and never had any problems with it or has there been any signs of cracking around the cut out. Here's a pic to show you. It's just to the left of the little one.

Definitely get the 409hp engine, at a minimum. We remove the factory hard tanks and put in 1100 sacs on each side of the engine. Those, along with the factory belly, a tube sac in the walkway and a bow triangle in the nose....wake will be one of the best ones out there (we even put two more 450's in the cabin, but it's still good with out them). With that setup and the Acme 1235, the boat gets out of the water pretty good.

After two years in a 230, here are some of my comments:
Trash Can - have it, never used it.
Removable rear facing seat - have it but never used it, just sits in a spare bedroom in the house.
Table - never had one, if we did, I feel it would sit in the bedroom with the rear facing stadium seat.
Underwater lights - have them, never used them.

The 2012 only has the larger screen without the needles. Z5 is a must. Now that I have one, I will never go back.

Ya, thats kind of what I think would happen with the underwater lights. Originally think they would be cool to have, but don't think they would get much usage. The only time we are in the boat at night is for the 4th of July in Tahoe and coming back from a dinner once or twice a year. Never in the boat at night to swim etc. Although they would be very cool to have.

I love the underwater lights. They are great for night surfing! Wish I had them on this year's boat.

Save money by not getting underwater lights from CC and get a couple ShadowCaster brand lights. I had a custom bar mount made for mine that attaches underneath the platform - super bright lights. (we hang out at night on our lake sometimes though, and a lil after dark surfing lights the wake up nice.) The Shadow Casters are not cheap, but not much more than the ones from CC and much better/brighter.
I have the 343 and don't really have a problem with power. I use some extra weight and sometimes have several people. Not saying that the 409 wouldn't give you a little more ummph though. Personally, I just think there will be more maintenance down the road with a closed cooling system(my .02).
I also am happy with my factory upgraded stereo (Amp for tower speakers). The new towers still haven't grown on me. I do like the Bimini storage combo though. I have an 09' with the Titan, and a custom OTT bimini which I really like. Still not a fan of the Linc either (cool technology), again, just think it will be expensive down the road. (my .02)
I added the Transom remote after as well, and also put an Ipod hookup just inside the transom as well, so you can jam from the platform while just chilling in the lake, enjoying your favorite........ Soda.
At any rate, at least you have chosen a great boat manufacturer! Enjoy it!
